Espanyol are heading down to the Segunda Division without a fight after suffering their eighth defeat on the bounce against Valencia.
Espanyol are simply playing for pride following a truly disheartening season for Francisco Rufete's men. It is hard to know that Los Periquitos fate was sealed well before the game following their 1-0 loss to Barcelona which confirmed their relegation. Espanyol have not played outside the Spanish top flight since the 1993-94 season, but Rufete's men have only managed to accumulate 24 points all season and never looked likely to produce a miraculous turnaround in the second half of the campaign. For sure, this match on the home field is matter of pride, not points.
On the other side of the field, Celta Vigo is in a slightly better solution, but far away from safe. They share same number of points with 17th Alaves and only 4 points in from of the relegation zone. Celta's form since June's restart has been incredibly mixed, to say the least, best summed up by a 6-0 win over Alaves being followed up by a 5-1 loss at Mallorca a week later. Add a dramatic 2-2 draw with Barcelona and 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid into the consideration od dramatic finish of the campaign and struggle to stay alive on the La Liga table till the last second.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
