Everton host Burnley at Goodison Park (Liverpool) in the 28th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, March 13. Read our reasons for Everton vs Burnley prediction and betting tips.
Despite a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea last time out - which involved Everton registering a record 53rd own goal in the top-flight, the feel-good factor remains for the ‘Toffees’ who won their three matches prior. Everton remain in the hunt for a top-four place, but their home form has been lacking. That’s highlighted by the fact they’ve lost more than they’ve won here (W5, D2, L6), whilst also registering just two clean sheets. As for Burnley, the Clarets have only lost one of their previous seven league matches but draws dominated that run (W1, D5, L1), the two last ones being 1-1 draws against Leicester and Arsenal. However, they’ve impressively won three of their previous five fixtures on the road (L2), each time ‘to nil, which has been good enough for the 15th place in the PL standings.
After claiming a hat-trick of victories, Everton turned in a disappointing display when going down 2-0 at Chelsea on Monday night. Although only conceding a Ben Godfrey own goal and a Jorginho penalty, the Toffees will be frustrated with how they lacked any real attacking threat. A 25-yard effort from Andre Gomes was their only shot on target and Chelsea dominated play, having 66 per cent of the possession.
Everton are still only four points behind the fourth-placed Blues and have a game in hand, but that defeat felt like a reality check. The Toffees have just picked up a few key injuries at the wrong time, though, with Yerry Mina, Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez missing the trip to Stamford Bridge. Getting James back for the Clarets would help in the creativity department and to score first, which is usually key to their success or failure.
On the other hand, Burnley have been draw specialists of late, sharing the spoils in four of their last five games after a 1-1 stalemate with Arsenal at Turf Moor. Granit Xhaka’s bizarre error late in the first half gifted the Clarets an equaliser after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s early opener. Sean Dyche’s side are only four points above the drop zone but will hope to stay safe if continuing to show the same resilience.
Though the match ended with Arsenal pushing for a winner, Burnley earlier created a number of second-half chances to go in front. England goalkeepers Jordan Pickford and Nick Pope will be out to impress in this contest and that further supports the tight tussle theory. That was the case when these two sides met earlier in the reverse fixture in December at Turf Moor where they drew 1-1.

Everton meet Burnley having recently won five of their six league home games against the Clarets but have only marginally better overall record with 8 wins to Burnley’s 7 in their last 20 meetings.
All the stats suggest that Everton’s Premier League clash with Burnley will be a tight, low-scoring affair at Goodison Park. None of the Toffees’ last four games have produced over 2.5 goals, while it is just one in five for the Clarets when it comes to passing that tally. Their past four head-to-head meetings have only featured six goals combined.
