Everton host Sheffield Utd at the Goodison Park (Liverpool) in the 36th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Sunday, May 16. Read our reasons for Everton vs Sheffield Utd prediction and betting tips.
Everton's hopes of qualifying for European competition next season took a blow after only drawing 0-0 with Aston Villa in midweek. They need to win their last three matches and hope those above them drop points. Facing relegated Sheffield United is at least a good place to start for Carlo Ancelotti's side. On the other hand, Sheffield Utd have lost 15 of their 17 away league matches this season. Surely not even Everton, who have fared better away from home than at Goodison Park this season, can mess up a gimme like this.
Everton couldn’t quite follow up a fine 1-0 win at West Ham with another victory at Villa Park. Ben Godfrey and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were denied by Emiliano Martinez as the Toffees left it a little too late to apply strong pressure at Villa Park. The Toffees are facing an outside chance of playing in Europe for the next season and are looking to pounce on vital 3 points against the Blades, as they face a challenge for the spot to Europe from Liverpool, West Ham and Chelsea, with every game crucial.
A dismal home record has hampered Everton's push for a European place but they are red-hot favourites to pick up three points against Premier League whipping boys Sheffield Utd. Goodison has been a bad place for Toffees this term with Carlo Ancelotti's men winning just five of their 17 home games in the league. Their record at home is only better than the three relegated clubs plus Brighton and Burnley so it's a testament to Everton's away form that they're still in the scrap for a Euro slot.
As for Sheffield Utd, it has been a season to forget for The Blades who were doomed to the drop after taking just two points from their first 17 league games. Caretaker boss Paul Heckingbottom has lost all but one of his games since taking over from Chris Wilder and fans are just desperate for this miserable campaign to end. Heckingbottom says his already-relegated side cannot afford to throw the towel in over their remaining fixtures, but it’s hard to see them getting out of their slump.
Sheffield Utd did manage to edge out Brighton 1-0 on home turf last month but otherwise it has been all doom and gloom for the Blades. They followed up a 4-0 drubbing at Tottenham by going down 2-0 to Palace at Bramall Lane. Particularly grim on the road, Sheffield have picked up only four points from a possible 51 (W1, D1, L15). They did win four from their previous six Everton league visits (L2) including a 2-0 success here last season but we can’t see lightening striking twice, given their current mood.

Everton meet Sheffield Utd looking to complete their first league double over The Blades since the 1972/73 campaign. United have won four of their last six away league games against Everton, including a 2-0 victory in this exact fixture last season. Also, Everton have won their last two league games against Sheffield, as many as they had in their previous 12 against the Blades (D4, L6).
A goalless snorefest at Villa Park on Thursday has left the Toffees up against it and they can ill afford another slip when the Blades come calling. The relegated Blades have lost seven of their last eight Premier League matches, with Paul Heckingbottom’s side scoring just two goals in those games. Their overall decent record against the Toffees shouldn’t matter much here.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
