EVERTON VS WEST HAM MATCH ANALYSIS
Everton come into this game on the back of a 1-0 win over bottom-fodders Sheffield Utd at Bramall Lane. Boxing Day victory handed them their fourth straight Premier League (PL) win for the second time this season and put them in 4th place for the moment, three points below leaders Liverpool. Their 16th round match against Man City was postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak within City ranks, and after a week’s rest, they welcome West Ham, who are 16th in the standings as this is being written. The three PL away wins the Hammers have picked up so far (W3, D1, L3) are just one shy of their entire away tally from the last campaign. They come into this match on the back of a goalless draw against Southampton at St.Mary’s on Tuesday and could use some of that grit and fighting spirit in another tough away test at Goodison Park.
Everton have done well this season despite the absence of James Rodriguez in midfield. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has arguably been the Toffees standout performer so far, with the England international scoring 11 goals in 15 Premier League games and impressing with his all-round play. Despite being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Man Utd on December 23, Everton went into their Boxing Day match with the Blades on the back of three consecutive league wins.
However, Carlo Ancelotti's men did not have it all their own way against a lowly Sheffield United side and were frustrated by the Blades for 80 minutes. Then, Gylfi Sigurdsson's late effort found the bottom-left corner, to extend their winning run to four matches as they leapfrogged Leicester and Manchester United in the process. While Everton looked resolute in defense there was a noticeable absence of invention to their attacking play, but in the end, they got the jo done, which is all that matters ahead of their clash with West Ham
West Ham, on the other hand, have only won one of their last six Premier League games, drawing three and losing two. David Moyes wants his team to be running close to the pack that's chasing the top four but the Hammers’ recent record has not been encouraging. However, Moyes was content with the East London side’s latest draw and will probably set up similarly against the Toffees on Friday.
David Moyes received some criticism for taking a cautious approach in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Brighton, but it was one which was justified at Southampton as his side took a point back to London. The Hammers had conceded five goals in two games prior to their trip to St Mary's, but they effectively nullified the Saints threat, which is something they will try to repeat on Friday against the in-form Everton. Second-half saw the return of forward Michail Antonio from injury, which will also be a huge boost against the Toffees.

In 31 previous encounters between the two sides, Everton hold the clear advantage. They have won 17 games, lost five and drawn nine. The two clubs last faced each other a few months ago in the round of 16 of the EFL Cup, with Everton thrashing West Ham United 4-1 courtesy of a hat-trick from in-form striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and a goal from Brazil international Richarlison.
Everton can win three Premier League home matches in a row for the first time since May 2019 and are one victory short of becoming the seventh club to record 400 Premier League wins.
David Moyes, on the other hand, has fashioned a very decent West Ham side that is disciplined while often creative and attack-minded. They have been rewarded for their enterprising play with some impressive results, notably big wins against Wolves and Leicester and draws at Manchester City and Tottenham.
