Everton host Wolves at the Goodison Park (Liverpool) in the 37th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 6 pm (UK) on Wednesday, May 19. Read our reasons for Everton vs Wolves Utd prediction and betting tips.
Everton lost ground in the race for a Europa League place after their surprise home defeat to relegated Sheffield Utd. Blades teenager Daniel Jebbison scored the game's only goal on his full league debut to leave Carlo Ancelotti's side three points behind Tottenham and West Ham, with two games remaining. It was a club record-equalling ninth home defeat of the season for the Toffees and Ancelotti described his side's performance as "embarrassing". Their midweek’s opponents, Wolves, though, are not doing much better - after successive seventh-placed finishes and a foray into the latter stages of the Europa League, Wolves are now consigned to a bottom half finish in the Premier League as the Spurs brutally exposed Wolves’ flaws in midfield in a 2-0 win on Sunday.
Before Sunday, Sheffield Utd had lost 15 of their 17 away games this season and were averaging 0.5 goals per game. Their relegation was confirmed more than a fortnight ago and they had three of their first-choice players were missing so elected to hand a 17-year-old kid his debut up front. Not surprisingly, Daniel Jebbison scored the game’s only goal, and Everton, who, as toothless as they have been on home turf all year, failed almost completely to muster a meaningful response over the ensuing 83 minutes plus stoppage time.
Needing to win to keep alive their prospects of qualifying for the Europa League, a target that felt like the bare minimum when the Toffees left Bramall Lane on Boxing Day sitting in second place, they followed up an abject first half with an even worse second before trudging off at full-time with their season effectively over. With two games left, sixth place remains mathematically possible, but it is unlikely that this team, playing the way it is, is capable of picking up the six points that would make it possible assuming results went the Blues’ way elsewhere.
As for Wolves, while they can hope for an improvement in the future, their fans will be hoping even more for Jimenez to return to action as soon as possible. For it turns out when he picked up his season-ending injury, his side's season ended at the same time. Having won five of their opening ten league matches with Jimenez in the attack, Wolves have gone on to take maximum points in only seven of the next 26 games. That dismal return has seen them slide as low as 14th in the table, having failed to reappear in the top half of the division all campaign.
All of this has culminated in one pretty miserable season for the Midlands club. Having spent a fortune on the likes of Silva and full-back Nelson Semedo, they have struggled to recapture the intensity and drive which made them one of the most exciting and successful newly-promoted clubs back in 2018/19. Those glories feel like a distant memory in the aftermath of Sunday's despairing defeat against Tottenham, and all they can do now is to pray for Jimenez to come back as deadly as he was at the start of the year.

Everton host Wolves looking to complete their first league double over The Wanderers since the 1975/76 campaign, following their 2-1 win in the reverse fixture in January. Wolves have won just one of their last nine away league games against Everton (D3, L5) and haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 12 games at Goodison in all competitions, since a 0-0 draw in September 1977.
However, having in mind both sides’ recent struggles in the attack, we expect a tight game and a low-scoring affair in midweek here.
