Finland will host Ireland in a very close match. Finland will be looking to put their crushing friendly defeat to Poland behind them when they welcome Ireland to Helsinki.
Despite the absence of the illustrious Robert Lewandowski, Finland proved no match for Poland as the Nordic nation succumbed to a humbling 5-1 loss in their midweek friendly against the Eagles. There was very little riding on that game, though, and Markku Kanerva's side will be determined to push that heavy defeat to the back of their minds as they aim to pick up where they left off in the Nations League. Having been promoted from League C last time around, Finland's opening game in Group B4 saw them fall to 1-0 defeat against Wales, but Kanerva's men triumphed over the Republic of Ireland by the same scoreline a few days later. Furthermore, recent history suggests that there will certainly be a winner and a loser in this game, as Finland have not shared the spoils in a match since playing out a goalless stalemate with North Macedonia in March 2018. Finland are welcoming some of their big-hitters back for their two Nations League games, with Teemu Pukki expected to return to the fold after a toe infection and is set to start up top. Captain Tim Sparv missed out the defeat to Poland for personal reasons but is in line for a recall to the midfield alongside Glen Kamara, meaning that Thomas Lam and Rasmus Schuller – both of whom started against Poland - will most likely drop down to the bench. Lukas Hradecky is expected to replace Jesse Joronen in goal, while Jere Uronen could be brought back in on the left-hand side of the defense.
The visitors are now under new management, of course, as Stephen Kenny took over from Mick McCarthy ahead of schedule in April. Kenny started his reign with a 1-1 draw in Bulgaria through Shane Duffy's 93rd-minute equalizer, before losing 1-0 at home to Finland - Fredrik Jensen netting the only goal. It is now one win in six for the Republic of Ireland, and even that victory came in a victory against minnows New Zealand before the coronavirus pandemic wreaked havoc on the calendar. Ireland are without skipper Seamus Coleman after he injured his hamstring in Everton's victory over Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend. Cyrus Christie has been called up. Kevin Long is also a late addition to the squad in place of the injured Darragh Lenihan, so Kenny has a few issues to contend with when it comes to picking his strongest lineup. Kenny used a 4-3-3 formation in his first two games, though he has the option of using Matt Doherty in his favored wing-back position, meaning a switch to a 5-3-2.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
