Atalanta continues their bid to secure a place among the top four, but Fiorentina aims to end on a high under Beppe Iachini. Read our reasons for Fiorentina vs Atalanta prediction and betting tips.
Fiorentina and Atalanta will write history in the USA, as the first Serie A match broadcast by one of the four major national networks. The Viola host the Orobici on Sunday and will be shown on ABC, meaning it’s the first time one of the four major US networks broadcast a match from Serie A. President Rocco Commisso’s Fiorentina sits 14th in the table ahead of the match against La Dea, who is fighting for a third consecutive season in the Champions League. Atalanta won the last Serie A meeting between the teams 3-0 at the Gewiss Stadium in December, when Robin Gosens, Ruslan Malinovskiy, and Rafael Toloi scored the goals. Fiorentina started the second stint under Iachini with a 1-1 draw against Genoa last time when they finished the match with 10 men due to Franck Ribery’s sending off.
Beppe Iachini’s Fiorentina comeback was a disappointing affair, but considering Franck Ribery was sent off, they did well to grab a point away from Genoa. This was a relegation tussle between two clubs who had hoped to be out of the danger zone by now. It also represented the return of Iachini, who had been fired in November but was recalled when Cesare Prandelli suddenly resigned due to the stress of the role. Genoa took the lead with a well-worked move, as Gianluca Scamacca acrobatically came sliding in at the back post to steer the long ball back from the by-line for Mattia Destro to sweep home from six yards. Fiorentina got their equalizer with the usual suspect Dusan Vlahovic, a splendid left-foot half-volley from a tricky angle with his left boot on the Gaetano Castrovilli knockdown on German Pezzella’s assist. There was bad news for the Viola when Franck Ribery went in over the ball to catch Davide Zappacosta studs-up on the ankle. It was more clumsy than intentional but certainly dangerous, and the referee opted for a straight red card.
Fiorentina (3-5-2): Dragowski; Milenkovic, Pezzella, Quarta; Caceres, Castrovilli, Amrabat, Bonaventura, Biraghi; Eysseric, Vlahovic
Suspended: Ribery, Pulgar
Injured: Igor, Kokorin
La Dea has won three on the bounce since the 1-0 defeat to Inter on March 8 and must continue on the same path to keep the challengers away. Napoli is only two points behind in fifth and Gian Piero Gasperini seems set to rely on Colombian forwards Luis Muriel and Duvan Zapata another time. Gian Piero Gasperini felt Atalanta ‘at times did well’ against Udinese, but the match ‘remained a bit open after 3-2’. The Orobici scored two goals through Luis Muriel in the first half, but Roberto Pereyra reduced the deficit just before halftime. Duvan Zapata restored the two-goal lead, but Udinese responded a second time through Jens Stryger Larsen. Gasperini said he was happy with the three points after returning from the international break. “Let’s look at our path,” Gasperini told the media. “We won a match after returning from the break and at times we played well. We managed to score two goals straight away, then we conceded. At 3-1, we conceded another one and the result remained a bit open after the 3-2 goal. But there were no other noteworthy incidents.”
Atalanta (4-2-3-1): Gollini; Toloi, Romero, Djimsiti, Gosens; Freuler, De Roon; Malinoskyi, Pasalic, Muriel; Zapata
Suspended: none
Injured: Hateboer, Pessina

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
