Fiorentina ended 2020 with an astonishing 3-0 victory away to Juventus, while Bologna fought back to hold Atalanta 2-2.
The Viola’s year had been pretty disastrous until the unexpected triumph in Turin, giving new coach Cesare Prandelli a much-needed boost. They hope to take that momentum forward against a Bologna side that is winless in five, but unbeaten in three. Cesare Prandelli was the last Fiorentina coach to win away to Juventus over 12 years ago and did it again tonight. ‘It was the right game to take a risk.’ This result ended a run of eight rounds without a victory but was also the first Fiorentina win away to Juventus in Serie A since a 3-2 thriller in March 2008. Funnily enough, the coach that day was also Prandelli.
Juan Cuadrado’s red card inevitably helped, but Dusan Vlahovic had already given the visitors the lead, then Alex Sandro's own goal and Martin Caceres tap-in consolidated the triumph. President Rocco Commisso made the phone call from America straight after the final whistle congratulating Prandelli and players for effort and courage to play at par with big favorites.

Sinisa Mihajlovic says he couldn’t ask more from 2020: ‘I remained alive.’ The Serbian tactician spoke after Bologna’s 2-2 draw against Atalanta and said that players gave him the perfect present for the end of the year. “We never give up, it’s no coincidence we have won so many points from losing position. We did a great job, the lads were incredible,” Mihajlovic said at a press conference after the game.
The former Fiorentina and Torino coach fought against leukemia in 2020. “As for the team, we have 15 points, but we would deserve more for what we’ve done on the pitch. We are doing well, despite all the difficulties.”
Atalanta fumbled an early 2-0 lead with Luis Muriel’s double, as Riccardo Orsolini came off the bench to inspire Bologna. Ilicic made an immediate impact, his shot testing the goalkeeper Angelo Da Costa, then he was tripped by Jerdy Schouten for a penalty that Muriel converted. Barely 60 seconds after that, Muriel was on the scoresheet again, pouncing on a poor Mitchell Dijks clearance to squirm between two players juggling the ball and firing in from 10 yards. Bologna fought back in the second half, though, as Takehiro Tomiyasu flicked it over the on-rushing Pierluigi Gollini from substitute Riccardo Orsolini’s assist. Rodrigo Palacio flicked on the Emanuel Vignato corner for Neuhen Paz to nod in at the back stick, relatively undisturbed for the final 2-2.

Injured: Sansone, Santander, Skorupski, Mbaye
On a yellow card: Danilo, Dominguez, Svanberg, Tomiyasu

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
