Fiorentina and Cagliari will look to bounce back after mid-week defeats and earn some valuable points for the escape from the relegation battle zone.
Fiorentina lost 2-1 against Lazio at the Olimpico who broke their good streak of four unbeaten matches in the Serie A. After their goalless draw against Bologna, it was clear that Viola has problems with creativity as they had just one chance before they were gifted a late goal by a catalog of Lazio errors, from Strakosha’s pass straight to Jose Callejon and Wesley Hoedt pulling down Vlahovic by the jersey for a penalty, at last, converted by Vlahovic. In the end, Strakosha had to smother the Sofyan Amrabat daisy-cutter in stoppages, but it was too little, too late from the Tuscans. Felipe Caicedo and Ciro Immobile were on target to end the positive Fiorentina streak. Both goals saw players knock the ball on for a volley from close range, with Bartlomiej Dragowski not judging the flight of the cross correctly.
Prandelli replaced Beppe Iachini at the helm in November and admitted he had to change the mentality at the Artemio Franchi. Despite having been brought in to turn things around immediately, Prandelli stressed he looks to the future and revealed he has an ‘interesting’ youth squad at the Viola. Dusan Vlahovic scored the first goal in an impressive 3-0 win against Juventus on December 22 and Prandelli said the Serbian has the potential to help the Viola do something about their lack of goals and reach double digits. Fiorentina must cope without Gaetano Castrovilli and Ribery for the next match and that will certainly hurt their chances in the final third.
Fiorentina (3-5-2): Dragowski; Milenkovic, Pezzella, Igor; Caceres, Amrabat, Borja Valero, Bonaventura, Biraghi; Vlahovic, Kouame
Suspended: Castrovilli
Injured: Ribery
Cagliari has ordered their squad into a training retreat to prepare for the crunch match against Fiorentina. The Sardinians are in crisis, as their most recent victory was 2-0 against Sampdoria on November 7. That was followed by four draws and five defeats, culminating in a 2-1 home loss to Benevento. The club and coach Eusebio Di Francesco have taken action by ordering the squad into a training retreat as they will stay for two nights in Tuscany rather than the usual one. Diego Godin and Adam Ounas are hoping to make their comeback this weekend, as they are back in training. Nahitan Nandez was handed a two-match ban for insulting and sarcastically applauding the referee.
Eusebio Di Francesco stated after their latest loss that Cagliari must work on their mentality and urged the board to sign new players in January. They scored on time, got an early lead, but once again failed to keep the clean sheet despite some good saves from Cragno, a best-rated goalkeeper in Serie A. Radja Nainggolan started the game and played 80 minutes but after some good passes and crosses in the first half, it was obvious that he is unfit and lacks playing minutes in the new season.
Cagliari (4-2-3-1): Cragno: Zappa, Godin, Walukiewicz, Lykogiannis; Nainggolan, Marin; Ounas, Joao Pedro, Sottil; Simeone
Suspended: Nandez
Injured: Ciocci, Luvumbo, Farago, Rog, Carboni, Klavan

It is very difficult to predict this match as both teams have their problems. The draw isn't an ideal outcome for them but could be a good sign after mid-week defeats.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
