Another relegation battle is on cards on Sunday as Fiorentina hosts Parma at Stadio Artemio Franchi. Read our reasons for Fiorentina vs Parma prediction and betting tips.
Cesare Prandelli was left to curse Fiorentina’s luck after a 2-1 home defeat to Roma. ‘This is another game we did not deserve to lose.’ Leonardo Spinazzola bizarrely scored both the opening goal and the equalizer, before VAR ruled Amadou Diawara’s late winner was not offside. “We conceded another goal by a millimeter, this is the third, having seen two goals disallowed by millimeters,” Prandelli told media. “We worked hard, took a strong approach, but you need to be far more alert, determined, and concentrated in the final minutes. This is another game we did not deserve to lose, but that’s the reality of the situation. We can’t cry over spilled milk. We need to take the positives and try to move on. Igor and Gaetano Castrovilli both got injured, Erick Pulgar then asked to come off, so things are piling up a bit. We’re not fortunate. Franck Ribery was injured only a few days ago, so I couldn’t risk anything more. I must try to get the best out of my players, put them in the positions that most suit their characteristics, and I don’t necessarily have many alternatives in similar roles. Quality is all well and good, it’s necessary, but even more so is hard work. We need more workers all over the pitch.”
Cesare Prandelli will be without Franck Ribery's declining force in attack, so the suspended Frenchman could be replaced by his compatriot Valentin Eysseric alongside top scorer Dusan Vlahovic in the Fiorentina front line. Alternative option Christian Kouame will still be sidelined with a thigh injury. Another creative force who has been short of form for a while, Gaetano Castrovilli, came off with a thigh issue of his own last time out, and either Giacomo Bonaventura - if fit - or Borja Valero is therefore expected to fill in. Versatile defender Igor also limped off versus Roma, so Cristiano Biraghi could be called upon to feature at wing-back.
Fiorentina: Dragowski; Milenkovic, Pezzella, Martinez Quarta; Venuti, Amrabat, Pulgar, Valero, Biraghi; Eysseric; Vlahovic
Roberto D’Aversa insisted Parma ‘certainly weren’t embarrassed by the Serie A leaders’ in a 2-1 home defeat to Inter but made ‘avoidable errors.’ The Ducali did get a goal back through Hernani but were unable to overturn the 2-0 deficit from an Alexis Sanchez brace. “We finished in their half and did very well in the first hour too, so Parma certainly weren’t embarrassed by the Serie A leaders,” D’Aversa told media. “The regrets are that they scored with basically our accidental pass and then a conceptual error on the counter, which we shouldn’t have done, knowing how good Conte is on the counter-attack. The fact we played on level terms with the Serie A leaders should give us more confidence, but on the other hand, we continue to make these banal errors. If we avoid them, then we can get much better results. There were situations in our favor that we didn’t make the most of, as we had the first real shot on goal and forced a Samir Handanovic to save. We must learn from Inter, because if players like Romelu Lukaku put in that determination and work-rate, then ours ought to follow that example. It’s just a pity that we play on level terms with the leaders and still go home empty-handed. In our last three games, we’ve always finished with a crescendo and that suggests good fitness levels too. If we analyze the goals, then we should be bringing home full results, but we make avoidable mistakes. We should’ve done better especially with the second goal, but some of our players don’t have that sense of impending danger. When Inter gets the ball and runs into open space, they are devastating.”
Parma coach Roberto D'Aversa has an ongoing injury headache to deal with - particularly in attack, as first-choices Gervinho and Andreas Cornelius will remain unavailable due to thigh strains and on-loan Joshua Zirkzee (back) continues to be a doubt ahead of the trip to Tuscany. Both Roberto Inglese and veteran striker Graziano Pelle were back on the bench in midweek, after significant spells out, so could feature at some stage. Unless either orthodox center-forward is considered fit to start, either Juraj Kucka or Juan Brunetta could occupy a 'false nine' role, with support from Yann Karamoh out wide. In defense, on-loan full-back Andrea Conti (also thigh) is struggling to recover in time, so either Yordan Osorio or Simone Iacoponi would deputize on the right of the visitors' back four if required.
Parma: Sepe; Osorio, Bani, Alves, Gagliolo; Hernani, Brugman, Kurtic; Karamoh, Kucka, Mihaila

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
