Fiorentina is back in crisis mode and Roma had their Champions League ambitions hit hard by a home defeat to Milan. Read our reasons for Fiorentina vs Roma prediction and betting tips.
The Viola felt the need to apologize to their fans after a 1-0 loss to Udinese left them floundering in the danger zone, losing three of their last four games. Cesare Prandelli defended Nikola Milenkovic after Fiorentina’s 1-0 defeat away at Udinese: ‘He made a mistake, but he is the first one to be disappointed.’ “It was a balanced game. We didn’t want to lose, we lacked attention at the end of the match,” Prandelli told the media. Ilija Nestorovski’s header proved decisive at the Dacia Arena, as Udinese got the better of Fiorentina. The tight game had seen a save on Jens Stryger-Larsen and a deflected long-range Lucas Martinez Quarta stunner bounce off the bar.
The deadlock was only broken in the final minute when Rodrigo De Paul floated a ball over to find Nestorovski sneak up behind Nikola Milenkovic. “We played well in the last three away games, but we collected little. “There were mistakes, now we must think about the next game on Wednesday. We could have done more to avoid their goal. There was a mistake, but it happens," the coach continued. “It was easy to read that situation, but we made a mistake and paid a high price for it.”

Paulo Fonseca is feeling the pressure again, as the defeat to Milan proved Roma cannot beat the big clubs and that raises serious questions over what they can achieve under his direction. Roma coach said he cannot deny they have a problem facing the big clubs after a defeat to Milan and particularly playing out from the back. The Giallorossi lost their first Serie A home game of the season, as Jordan Veretout’s strike was not enough, canceled out by a Franck Kessie penalty and Ante Rebic moment of quality. “We started the game very badly, mainly because we struggled under Milan’s high press when playing out from the back. We had the first 20 minutes wrong and that is never a good idea against a side like Milan. After that, we balanced it out, it was a much more even game and we created a lot of scoring opportunities, but the first 20 minutes were wrong.”
Henrikh Mkhitaryan was fuming after his penalty appeals were rejected, instead of the foul given against him when wrestling with Theo Hernandez. On the Rebic goal, Pau Lopez was at fault for poor distribution. “Pau was alone without pressure, he could’ve played it anywhere. It’s difficult to explain what happened. I don’t think Gianluca Mancini could’ve done more, Rebic deserves credit for the turn, the problem was the first pass. We have given away goals like that often against the run of play. When we started the game, the team was losing the ball too much playing out from the back, which allowed Milan to keep pushing us back. We were too passive defensively in those situations.”
Roma continues their remarkable record of failing to beat the big clubs, which could have a serious impact on the fight for the top four, as their head-to-head records with all the other sides are terrible. “It’s difficult to understand. It’s always the details, we’re missing something against the big clubs. We cannot deny that, it’s a fact that we do not beat the big teams.”

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
