There are no easy games for Fiorentina in the new season and things can get more complicated when they host Hellas Verona at Stadio Artemio Franchi in the Serie A tie on Saturday.
Fiorentina has reportedly ended the retreat and will allow their players to return home before the match against Hellas Verona. Dusan Vlahovic’s penalty in the 35th minute secured a 1-1 draw with high-flying Sassuolo on Wednesday and multiple reports in Italy reveal the Viola have decided to interrupt the training retreat. All the players are free to go home, but the classic pre-match quarantine will start again on Friday, a day ahead of the match against Verona Fiorentina are currently 17th in the League after Week 12, three points above Genoa in the relegation zone.
Cesare Prandelli praised the reaction of Fiorentina players after La Viola’s 1-1 draw against Sassuolo: ‘It means we have something inside.’ Prandelli changed Fiorentina’s system adopting a three-man defense when Fiorentina and Sassuolo shared the spoils, as both sides found the net and also rattled the frame of the goal. Domenico Berardi was the creator to send Junior Hamed Traore clear on goal for the Neroverdi opener, but Manuel Locatelli tripped Franck Ribery for a Dusan Vlahovic penalty. Either could’ve won it in the second half, as Pedro Obiang and Ribery both hit the crossbar.
Cesare Prandelli was aided by the return of Martin Caceres, Cristiano Biraghi, and Erick Pulgar against Sassuolo, so Fiorentina should be at full strength for the visit of Verona. The former Azzurri boss is expected to retain Wednesday's 3-5-2, with Gaetano Castrovilli being joined by Giacomo Bonaventura and ex-Verona midfielder Sofyan Amrabat in the midfield three.
Fiorentina (3-5-2): Bartlomiej Dragowski (GK); German Pezzella, Nikola Milenkovic, Martin Caceres; Pol Lirola, Giacomo Bonaventura, Erick Pulgar, Gaetano Castrovilli, Cristiano Biraghi; Christian Kouame, Dusan Vlahovic
Hellas Verona is flying high, but coach Ivan Juric remains angry with the club over their transfer strategy. ‘They have a different vision than me.’ Despite being comfortably mid-table and beating the likes of Atalanta, Juric continues to aim very low with Verona. Game vs Sampdoria showed that he was on point because visitors put on a masterclass of counter-attacking football to take all three points from Hellas Verona. Albin Ekdal pounced on a poor clearance to give his team the lead, then Valerio Verre ran from his penalty area to the opposite end to score against his former teammates. Mattia Zaccagni converted a penalty following the Mikkel Damsgaard foul on Kevin Ruegg, but Antonin Barak saw red in stoppages.
In addition to the absences of Marco Benassi, summer signing Nikola Kalinic, Mert Cetin, and former Leeds United midfielder Ronaldo Vieira, Verona's Ivan Juric will also have to do without the suspended Antonin Barak, who was sent off against Sampdoria. In their usual 3-4-2-1 setup, the Gialloblu are likely to stick with Samuel Di Carmine as the lone striker, with Andrea Favilli an option on the bench.
Hellas Verona (3-4-2-1): Marco Silvestri (GK); Pawel Dawidowicz, Matteo Lovato, Federico Dimarco; Marco Davide Faraoni, Miguel Veloso, Adrien Tameze, Darko Lazovic; Eddy Salcedo, Mattia Zaccagni; Samuel Di Carmine

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
