FLEETWOOD VS SUNDERLAND MATCH ANALYSIS
Fleetwood and Sunderland have managed to keep their respective 100 per cent records intact as they near the knockout stages and the last 32 of the cup. Both Fleetwood and Sunderland are topping their North Group A table with maximum 6 points after the first two rounds. Both sides have won comfortably against the other two sides in their group – Carlisle Utd and Aston Villa U21 – and Sunderland is above Fleetwood only on goal difference.
After winning against Carlisle Utd (1-3) in the first round, Fleetwood continued their run in the EFL Trophy as they beat Aston Villa U21 3-0 at Highbury Stadium on October 6 by Harvey Saunder’s hat-trick. After two rounds, his five-goals tally has made him a top-scorer in the competition so far. However, while awaiting their clash with the Black Cats, the Town has been knocked out of the FA Cup in the first round by Hull (2-0) and apart from the defeat, Fleetwood will rue the injuries of Chad Evans and their best player Saunders. The visitors, perhaps understandably given the loss of Evans and Saunders, struggled for momentum all game and were undone by goals from Josh Magennis and Reece Burke. While they wait on the injury reports, their focus is shifting onto the next match with Sunderland.
As for the Black Cats, they have dismantled both Villa U21 and Carlisle in first two rounds, scoring 13 goals in the process. Their 8-1 routing of Villa at the Stadium of Light on September 8 has been the highest-scoring game of the competition in 2020/21. They continued in the same vein in the 2nd round as they put five past Carlisle (5-3). However, just like their Tuesday’s opponents, they have been eliminated from the FA Cup in the first round by Mansfield (0-1), the team placed 91st in the English football pyramid. The Black Cats’ defeat to Mansfield infused supporters with disappointment and slight embarrassment, being knocked out of the competition by a side that hasn’t won a game since mid-March.

Fleetwood vs Sunderland in the final group game in the Papa John’s Trophy is a dead rubber, with both Joey Barton and Parkinson likely to field weakened sides ahead of league matches at the weekend. The teams will feel they need to bounce back after defeats in FA Cup and the league, with the focus now on whether they will show the character to produce three points to end a positive EFL Trophy group stage.
They only met four times, in the last two seasons in League One, and three of those games were 1-1 draws, while Fleetwood got the solitary 2-1 win in April 2019. They have averaged 2.25 goals in those meeting, and having in mind the tight schedule, injuries and the importance, or lack of it for this match, the game will probably not be as entertaining as their previous North Group A matches.
BettingKick’s prediction for Fleetwood vs Sunderland match is: Under 2.5 goals

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
