France host Portugal when two national teams lock horns in UEFA Nations League A Group 3 Round 3 tie at Stade de France (Paris) on Sunday, October 11 and the game kicks off at 7.45pm (UK).
Portugal and France are joint-top in their group with maximum six points from the first two rounds, having won their respective games against Croatia and Sweden, who are bottom of the table without picking any points so far. Portugal sits above France on goal difference and the game will be of huge importance to both sides.
France won 1-0 in Sweden in their opening fixture and then followed it with a 4-2 in Paris against Croatia, the side Didier Deschamps’ team beat in the 2018 FIFA World Cup final. France have had much better record over past meetings (W18 D1 L6), but will surely remember their last match-up, a 1-0 extra-time loss to Portugal in the UEFA EURO 2016 final at the same venue, Stade de France. Before that match, France were on a ten-game winning streak against the Portuguese, stretching back to the 1970s.
Furthermore, Les Bleus are one of the few national teams against which Ronaldo has not scored yet (in three attempts). The 3-5-2 formation which Deschamps prefers is designed to suit their attacking players, Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappé, and can accommodate another attacking-minded player in Houssem Aouar too. This attacking triangle will be a great threat for the Portuguese opposition on Sunday.
As for Portugal, they began the defense of their UEFA Nations League crown in perfect fashion with dominant victories over Croatia (4-1) and Sweden (0-2) in Group A3 last month. The reigning European Champions were defeated only once on their way to the group stages of next year's European Championships - a 2-1 loss against Ukraine - which was the first time that Portugal had been defeated since being knocked out of the World Cup by Uruguay two years ago.
Meanwhile, they are undefeated in their last six friendlies, with their most recent friendly game ending in a 0-0 stalmate with Spain on Wednesday, and coach Santos has led his men to nine wins from their last 11 in all competitions. In all fairness, when we talk about the Iberian side, a man to keep an eye on in the away team will be Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored a brace in a 2-0 win over Sweden and can certainly inspire Fernando Santos' men again.

During the last ten years, these two national teams have played 3 times. France have won twice and another game was finished without a winner, leaving Portugal winless against France in the last decade. Their most recent match-up was in Portugal at EURO 2016 which ended in a goalless draw. Overall, there has been an average of 1.33 goals per game. France have scored an average of 1.0 while Portugal have scored an average of 0.33 per match.
With both national teams' players just getting into their stride at their clubs, this game might have come too early in the season to bring out the very best in them, so if the game is won by either team, it may well be an individual moment of brilliance from the likes of Kylian Mbappe or Cristiano Ronaldo.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
