France meet Switzerland at Arena Națională (Bucharest) in the EURO 2020 Group F Round of 16 clash and the game kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Monday, June 28. Read our reason for France vs Switzerland prediction and betting tips.
FRANCE VS SWITZERLAND, CAN THE SWISS PULL OFF THE IMPOSSIBLE?
France and Switzerland meet for a fifth time in nine major tournaments going back to 2004, with the latter still seeking a first head to head win since the start of this century. A 2-2 draw against Euro 2016 winners Portugal on matchday three saw France progress to the knockout stages for the sixth time in their last seven Euro appearances. Confident after finishing first in Euro 2020’s ‘group of death’, the world champions are richly expected to be quarter-finalists. Switzerland could only finish third behind Italy and Wales during the group stage despite being the second-highest FIFA-ranked team in Group A. In a trend that further justifies their underdog status, the Swiss have been eliminated at the round of 16 in each of their last three major tournaments.
LES BLEUS TO HIT TOP FORM
France put in a polished performance when kicking off with a 1-0 victory over Germany in Munich but then stuttered slightly. Les Bleus struggled with the Budapest heat when drawing 1-1 with Hungary and closed with a patchy 2-2 stalemate versus Portugal. However, having led his team to the Euro 2016 final and World Cup glory, Didier Deschamps knows how to plan a tournament campaign.
Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann and PSG star Kilian Mbapee have shown incredible work rate but haven’t had a huge impact as an attacking force as yet, while there are also question marks against a defence that has kept just one clean sheet, that coming against Germany in the opener. France came into Euro 2020 as one of the favourites to lift the trophy and now they have to really click into gear.
TIP #1: Benzema scoring his first international goals since 2015 was a boost and the Real Madrid forward is relishing his surprise recall. Looking at the odds, Benzema appeals to score at any time.
SWISS WON’T ROLL OVER
Every team that has recently faced Italy has had to deal with a loss. So, a loss against the group leaders might not be too demoralising. A draw against a Wales side brimming with confidence earned them a crucial point. Xherdan Shaqiri’s inspiring performance against Turkey in the final group match was enough to earn them a berth in the knockouts. The victory was much more like the performances we have seen from Vladimir Petkovic's men prior to Euro 2020.
The Rossocrociati will look to take that confidence and momentum into the last-16 tie. However, their limitations were exposed by Italy. The Swiss have also gone out at the last-16 stage in three straight major tournaments - their campaign might not go any further again as they take on the World Champions and European runners up. Interestingly, though, four of the last five meetings between Switzerland and France have ended in draws, which gives the Swiss a slim hope.
TIP #2: Switzerland have won 12 of the 14 competitive matches to see talismanic Xherdan Shaqiri get on the scoresheet. His involvement will be crucial if Switzerland hopes to find a way past France, and we back him to score anytime.

France should be battle-hardened after topping the ‘group of death’ at Euro 2020 and are expected to prove too strong for Switzerland. Les Bleus weren’t quite at their best during the pool stage but punters should anticipate a step up in intensity for the knockout rounds.
Their opponents are solid but lack class at this level so for the tournament favourites to win to nil is the final BettingKick’s France vs Switzerland prediction.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
