Robert Lewandowski can make Bundesliga history when champions Bayern Munich head to Freiburg on Saturday. Read our Freiburg vs Bayern Munich prediction and betting tips.
One Freiburg player could be eager to show his quality more than anyone in the next match. Nils Petersen is a former Bayern player having spent the 2011/12 campaign in Munich but has a place in history as Freiburg’s all-time top scorer with 95 goals. Freiburg has only won one of their last 35 Bundesliga meetings with Bayern - on Matchday 33 of the 2014/15 campaign. Former Bayern man Petersen scored the winner that day. Freiburg’s all-time leading marksman struck twice in nine Bundesliga appearances in his one season at the record champions, in 2011/12. He got the latest in a now rare start last weekend as the Black Forest club ran out 4-1 winners at Koln to maintain their hopes of a place in the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League, sitting only two points off Borussia Mönchengladbach in seventh.
Vincenzo Grifo took his total for the campaign to a club-leading nine in that game, one more than Petersen, as well as chipping in with a pair of assists. Christian Streich rotated in that match after a midweek fixture but has made a guarantee to goalkeeper Mark Flekken that he will start the final three matchdays ahead of Florian Müller. Captain Christian Günter has also played every minute of this season with two games of the 34 to go.
Freiburg: Flekken - Kübler, Lienhart, Schlotterbeck, Günter (c) - Schmid, Santamaria, Höfler, Grifo - Demirovic, Höler
Out: -
Doubtful: Gulde (calf), Heintz (back)
Coach: Christian Streich
Bayern may not be having anything left to play for with their ninth straight Bundesliga title already wrapped up after last week, so attention now turns to Lewandowski. His hat-trick in the 6-0 thrashing of Gladbach in the previous game took him onto 39 goals for the campaign – he now has two matches to equal or even break Gerd Müller’s historic single-season record of 40 goals from 1971/72. The striker is on four yellow cards for the campaign so may want to get the job done in Freiburg with the risk of a suspension for Matchday 34 looming should he be booked again. Lewandowski has scored 18 goals in 17 games against Freiburg.
Leon Goretzka is out for the remainder of the season with a torn hamstring picked up after coming on against Gladbach, so David Alaba – fresh from earning his record-breaking 10th Bundesliga title – should continue in midfield alongside Joshua Kimmich. Manuel Neuer can claim the outright Bundesliga record for Bundesliga clean sheets. He’s currently tied with Oliver Kahn on 204, albeit having played far fewer games - 437 compared to 557.
Bayern: Neuer (c) - Pavard, Boateng, Hernandez, Davies - Kimmich, Alaba - Sane, Müller, Musiala - Lewandowski
Out: Costa (metatarsal), Goretzka (hamstring), Nianzou (suspended)
Doubtful: Choupo-Moting (back), Hoffmann (knee), Tolisso (thigh)
Coach: Hansi Flick

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
