Sunday's game between Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen will see two teams in a different form.
Freiburg is relying on one man at the moment. Former Germany international Nils Petersen is enjoying his 11th season of a Bundesliga career that's taken in 77 goals across spells with Energie Cottbus, Bayern Munich, Werder Bremen, and Freiburg. The 31-year-old is his current employer's all-time record marksman, and already has a team-leading two goals to show for his first five league matches of the 2020/21 campaign. He hasn't scored in the last three and Freiburg is without a win in four since beating promoted VfB Stuttgart 3-2 on the opening weekend. The fact that they have drawn three in that time offers some encouragement, but it's worth noting they were brought back from a winning position in each fixture.
Vincenzo Grifo joined Petersen on two goals for the season with his opener against Union Berlin last time out as Christian Streich stuck with the same side that had also been held by Werder Bremen a week earlier. The Freiburg coach isn't expected to shuffle his pack on Sunday. Streich's side is winless in four league games, however, and have won only one of their last 10 meetings with Leverkusen. Freiburg is unbeaten in their last five Bundesliga home matches. Their last defeat on home soil came at the hands of Leverkusen on Matchday 29 of 2019/20.
Freiburg: Müller - Schmid, Lienhart, Heintz, Günter (c) - Sallai, Santamaria, Höfler, Grifo - Höler, Petersen
Out: Abrashi (match fitness), Flekken (elbow), Haberer (ankle), Til (not included)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Christian Streich
Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz, have fatigue on his mind after Thursday's UEFA Europa League encounter at Slavia Prague. Bosz is unbeaten in his four meetings with Freiburg as a coach (W2, D2), while Leverkusen has lost only one of their last 10 Bundesliga away games (W5, D4). Although Wendell has started Bayer's two European games in 2020/21, Daley Sinkgraven appears to be his coach's preferred left-back on the domestic scene, starting four of five in the league. Leon Bailey - singled out for praise by Bosz in midweek - Nadiem Amiri and Moussa Diaby are also enjoying a run in the side as the attacking three behind in-form lone striker Alario. The Argentina international is Leverkusen's top scorer in all competitions so far this season, with five goals in seven outings - including four in his last four. Alario has scored in back-to-back Bundesliga matches for the first time and is Leverkusen’s top scorer so far this term with three goals in four league games.
Teenager Florian Wirtz is another option in the middle of the park, after returning to the side in the Czech capital, but club captain Charles Aranguiz remains a doubt. Leverkusen had been the Bundesliga team yet to lose a competitive game this season until their 1-0 reverse against Slavia. Leverkusen has gone five successive matches without defeat to start a season for the first time in 11 years.
Leverkusen: Hradecky - L. Bender (c), S. Bender, Tapsoba, Sinkgraven - Baumgartlinger - Bailey, Wirtz, Amiri, Diaby - Alario
Out: Arias (ankle), Paulinho (knee)
Doubtful: Aranguiz (muscular) Schick (thigh)
Coach: Peter Bosz

Freiburg started well but after that win vs Stuttgart, they have trouble scoring. Leverkusen found that scoring touch in the two matches but in Prague, they couldn’t find the net. Under 2,5 goals looks like a decent bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
