After two great performances, Werder Bremen will try to continue to add points when they travel to Freiburg on Saturday in search of a third Bundesliga win in a row.
Freiburg suffered their first defeat of the season in their last game before the international break, with a 4-0 at Borussia Dortmund. Christian Streich's side is unbeaten in four league matches at home dating back to the end of last season and will be keen on returning to winning ways on Saturday against Bremen. Four games without a win in the Bundesliga represents Freiburg's longest spell with Streich as a coach. Freiburg is yet to keep a clean sheet in four competitive matches this season and this was the main issue that they tried to solve during the break.
With Mark Flekken out for the long-term, on loan Mainz goalkeeper Florian Müller will continue between the posts. Vincenzo Grifo has trained since returning from international duty with Italy. Should he not be at 100 percent in time, Jeong Woo-Yeong is the favorite to take his place on the wing but he is not on the same level as Italian that started the season on a high note. Janik Haberer is working back to full fitness but will struggle to displace Baptiste Santamaria or Niclas Höfler in the center of Freiburg's midfield. Nils Petersen scored 18 goals in 69 Bundesliga appearances for Bremen, before moving to Freiburg during the 2014/15 winter transfer window. He's struck four times in six meetings against Bremen.
Freiburg: Müller - Schmid, Lienhart, Heintz, Günter (c) - Sallai, Santamaria, Höfler, Grifo - Petersen, Höler
Out: Abrashi (not included), Flekken (elbow)
Doubtful: Haberer (ankle)
Coach: Christian Streich
Bremen have managed for the first time since September 2019 to be a pleasure to watch for their fans. Florian Kohfeldt's side has won back-to-back games, beating Schalke and Arminia Bielefeld before the international break. Josh Sargent, their starlet forward, is still searching for his first league goal of the campaign but did hit the net in his side's DFB Cup first-round victory last month. The 20-year-old should continue in attack - alongside Niclas Füllkrug - with Leonardo Bittencourt, proven match-winners in support. Bittencourt has scored seven goals in 10 career meetings with Freiburg - more than against any other club. Those two have scored each of Bremen's last four goals in the Bundesliga and will be key to a potential away win for Bremen, who are likely to still be missing Davie Selke and also Milot Rashica, despite the latter returning to training this week.
Werder's record of 23 wins, eight draws, and nine defeats in 40 games against Freiburg is the best of all their Bundesliga head-to-heads. Bremen is better defensively, after first-round defeat and stats that show that they conceded a league-high 22 goals from set-pieces last season, they are yet to give away a set-play goal this term.
Bremen: Pavlenka - Gebre Selassie (c), Veljkovic, Friedl, Augustinsson - Mbom, Eggestein, Bittencourt - Sargent, Füllkrug, Chong
Out: -
Doubtful: Rashica (knee), Selke (hip), Toprak (calf)
Coach: Florian Kohfeldt

Freiburg and Werder are playing some good football lately but are a team from Bremen that looks like one that has more confidence. A draw would satisfy both sides so both teams to score is our most reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
