Looking at their scoring record after the first round, the match between Freiburg and Wolfsburg could be also a fight of the two different playing styles at the Schwarzwald-Stadion on Sunday.
Nils Petersen is the best goalscorer in the Freiburg history and it was more than expected that he scores the first goal for them against promoted VfB Stuttgart on Matchday 1 of the new season. Petersen extended his record to a club-leading 88 competitive goals, he got 76 goals in 215 Bundesliga appearances. Ex Bayern striker appeared in the 2016 Summer Olympics and remains the first and only German footballer who has scored five goals in a single game with the national team. His goal started what looked like a routine way for Freiburg win, who were 3-0 up by the 48th minute, but the two second-half goals from Stuttgart suggested that they must improve defensively and under pressure.
Christian Streich is the Bundesliga's longest-serving active coach, and his knowledge of the players and rivals in this league helps with team preparation for anything that comes at them. He must find a way to gel the last line with new loaned goalkeeper Florian Muller who is replacing the injured Mark Flekken. Defender Keven Schlotterbeck and midfielder Janik Haberer are also sidelined. Ex-Bayern Munich winger Jeong Woo-Yeong and Lucas Höler joined Petersen in the attack against Stuttgart, but Roland Sallai had a man of the match performance with a goal and assist and was present in the final third in almost every Freiburg attack. Summer signing Ermedin Demirovic didn't make it off the bench, but his 2019/20 record of 14 goals in 19 appearances for Swiss club St. Gallen is too good to ignore and it is a matter of time before he debuts in the Bundesliga.
Freiburg: Müller - Schmid, Lienhart, Heintz, Günter (c) - Sallai, Höfler, Grifo – Jeong, Petersen, Höler
Doubtful: -
Out: Flekken (elbow), Haberer (ankle), Schlotterbeck (muscular), Til (ankle)
Coach: Christian Streich
Wolfsburg continues to play as in the last season, like one of the teams that have a more defensive approach than the others. Their coach Oliver Glasner knows that for winning matches it is not enough just to keep a clean sheet so every goal that Wout Weghorst and his teammates scored could be crucial for the place in the top half of the table. Against Leverkusen they have done one part of the plan, in a goalless draw against a very good team they kept a net untouched but on the other side, their top scorer for two seasons running was denied a goal by a fine Lukas Hradecky save on the stroke of half-time. Admir Mehmedi had an effort ruled out for offside in an encouraging performance that was a reminder of the inconsistency that walked hand in hand with the Wolves in the last season.
Oliver Glasner's team recorded just four home wins in the last term, compared to nine as visitors. Wolfsburg won 4-1 away to Regionalliga Union Fürstenwalde in the DFB Cup first round a fortnight ago, a game which team captain Joshua Guilavogui began alongside signing Maxence Lacroix at center-back. The Frenchman's return from suspension comes at the perfect time after Lacroix took a knock in UEFA Europa League action in midweek when Wolfsburg defeated Ukrainian team Desna with Guilavogi goal in the 16th minute and Ginczein the added time. US international John Brooks could be brought in the starting lineup. Josip Brekalo is also a doubt with a foot injury, while defenders Marin Pongracic and William are still out.
Wolfsburg: Casteels (c) - Steffen, Guilavogui, Brooks, Roussillon - Schlager, Arnold - Victor, Mehmedi, Brekalo – Weghorst
Doubtful: Lacroix (knock), Brekalo (foot)
Out: Mbabu (knee), Pongracic (glandular fever), William (knee)
Coach: Oliver Glasner

Freiburg and Wolfsburg scored 48 Bundesliga goals apiece last season and this is the fewest number of total team goals in the top half of the final standings so under 2,5 goals is the most reasonable option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
