The game kicks off at 7.45pm (UK) on Thursday 30 July, when Fulham host Cardiff at Craven Cottage in London.
Fulham manager, Scott Parker, has been readying his men for the play-off showdown with a little help from the club's sports psychologist, and it looks like it's paying dividends. This season was tumultuous for Fulham with few bumps along the road, but the last season's relegation really left mental scars, which is probably why they called on the expert in the first place. They are now undefeated in eight games (W6,D2), and have just thoroughly beaten Cardiff in Wales in the first leg of the play-off semi-final.
The former Millwall manager, Neil Harris, took over at Cardiff in November, when the club was going nowhere in the 14th place in the Championship, and revived their season with securing the place in the play-off. They were the underdogs in this tie from the very beginning, but after a Monday's defeat at home against the Whites (0:2), they have an almost impossible task ahead of the second leg to overcome the Fulham's lead.
FULHAM VS CARDIFF MATCH ANALYSIS
The game on Thursday was a tale of two halves - the first was evenly contested, while the second saw Fulham totally in control and absolutely dominant. Fulham had so much possession that Cardiff barely got any touches at all. Aleksandar Mitrovic's absence wasn't felt at all, with Josh Onomah scoring the first, and Neeskens Kebano getting the second in injury time from a free-kick.
Having finished fourth in the table, eight points above Cardiff, Fulham were rightfully regarded as favourites in this tie, and are now in the driving seat to book their tickets to Wembley at home on Thursday. They are on a three games unbeaten run without their-and league's-top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic, who will hopefully be back in the squad for the rematch. They have also won those three games with a two-goal margin and are firm favourites to progress.
The Bluebirds haven't thrown the towel yet, but without any doubt, Fulham have now gained the upper hand in a battle to return to the Premier League. Cardiff City defeat was their fifth consecutive match where the team that scored first won the game (W3,L2). Another encouraging fact for Cardiff is that they have won six of their last eight away games.
Cardiff were out-shot 13-6 at home on Monday, and even though the changes Neil Harris brought in with him were there for all to see as the Bluebirds were very positive from the start, once they conceded their game plan went out of the window. Now, they can only hope to score first in London to make this a competitive second leg.

The Bluebirds are not yet out of contention, but Fulham are in full control and this tie is theirs to lose. While the visitors proved they can be a threat in the first half on Monday, unless they open the scoring in the second leg, the exit from the play-off will likely be the only outcome for them. If Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic returns in the starting eleven, the misery will compound even more for Cardiff.
