Fulham host Newcastle at the Craven Cottage (London) in the final 38th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 4 pm (UK) on Sunday, May 23. Read our reasons for Fulham vs Newcastle prediction and betting tips.
Fulham’s creditable midweek 1-1 draw at Old Trafford summed up their Premier League season in some respects – on their day, good enough to take points off anyone, but those days didn’t occur frequently enough to save the London side from another relegation. They put in a spirited display away to Man Utd in midweek and could yet finish it on a high in front of their own fans. Meanwhile, Newcastle have ended the season well with only three defeats in their last 12 but look to be missing a lot of key players on Sunday. The Magpies can finish as high as 12th following their 1-0 midweek win over Sheffield Utd so they’ll be desperate to extend their current three-game unbeaten run against the Cottagers (W1, D2).
Fulham showed plenty of spirit when coming from behind to draw 1-1 at Old Trafford on Tuesday. Joe Bryan headed in Bobby Decordova-Reid’s superb cross to cancel out Edinson Cavani’s stunning opener and the Cottagers had other good chances to score. The lack of a cutting edge up front has cost Fulham dear during a nine-match winless run which has featured seven defeats but they have never stopped trying. This is a chance to at least give their returning fans something to cheer about.
Fulham had given themselves an excellent chance of survival after victory against Liverpool at Anfield early in 2021, but since then they have won just once. Scott Parker’s side were relegated a couple of weeks ago while only a couple of months ago, it seemed as though this could have been one of the biggest final-day relegation battles in Premier League history, though. However, Newcastle’s return to form, coupled with a poor run of results for Fulham means that nothing will be riding on the game except pride.
As for Newcastle, they made it four wins in seven outings when Joe Willock netted for the sixth successive game in a 1-0 triumph over Sheffield Utd. During a fine run of form, the Magpies have also drawn 1-1 at Liverpool and pushed Man City hard in a thrilling 4-3 loss. However, that low-key win over the Blades did come at a cost, with Willock one of several players to limp off. With top scorer Callum Wilson already absent, Joelinton was withdrawn before the break and Saint-Maximin had to be replaced on 71 minutes.
The Toon could still end the season as high as 12th depending on other results and a swing in goal difference. Geordie’s will be slow to give Steve Bruce credit for the past season, but he has done a great job at steadying the ship, despite it looking at one point that they could drop down into the Championship. The summer period will be huge for Newcastle, and it will be interesting to see whether Bruce remains at the club.

Fulham host Newcastle having a strong record against The Magpies, as they have lost just once in the last six meetings between the sides. That defeat came in May 2019, as they lost 4-0. However, Fulham have won half of the previous six fixtures between the sides.
Relegated Fulham are fancied to bow out of the Premier League in a brief blaze of glory by ending Newcastle’s good run of form. The Cottagers will be looking to build on a brave draw at Man Utd while this may be one game too many for a Magpies outfit hit by fresh injury problems.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
