Fulham host Southampton at Craven Cottage (London) in the 15th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, December 26.
FULHAM VS SOUTHAMPTON MATCH ANALYSIS
The hosts made a slow start to the season with eight defeats in twelve games, but with a surprising win at Leicester (1-2) in Round 10 and three draws on the trot - against the defending champions Liverpool (1-1), Brighton (0-0), and Newcastle (1-1) they have escaped the drop zone and are sitting in 17th place with 10 points ahead of the match with Saints. Southampton have completely turned their fortunes around since the beginning of the season and had recorded back-to-back wins at Brighton (2-1) and Sheffield Utd at home (3-0) before succumbing to Man City at home last weekend (0-1). Nevertheless, they are still up there at 6th place, two points from the top-four.
The last season's play-off winners in the Championship have been exposed for all their shortcomings and weaknesses so far in the league and will have to raise their game significantly if they want to avoid relegation. The Cottagers have made their worst ever start in a top-flight after the first six games (D1 L5), but with a win in round 7 (2-0 against West Brom), they had avoided their worst run of games ever. Since then, they have picked up three more defeats, one win, and three draws in their next seven fixtures (W2, D4, L8 in total).
When it comes to their most recent game at Newcastle, the Cottagers took the lead just before the break and looked comfortable until the 62nd minute when defender Joachim Andersen was shown a red card for a foul on Wilson. The forward converted from the spot for his eighth goal of the season, as the home side earned a fortunate point. The equaliser and red card were tough on Fulham, who had looked the more composed in recent weeks and will look for their fourth consecutive game without a defeat on Saturday.
As for the Saints, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side looks different, a much more organized side than they seemed after back-to-back defeats at the start of the campaign. With the squad that includes in-form Stephens, James Ward-Prowse, Armstrong, and Ings, they have a strong core of the team, who shouldn't be in a similar situation to last year. They lost only their second match in twelve last weekend and will be up for it when they visit London on Saturday.
Southampton, who began the day third in the table at the weekend, were undone by Raheem Sterling’s goal after 16 minutes. They responded well but their efforts to draw level were hampered by the loss of striker Danny Ings through injury before half-time. Apart from Ings blow and a 10th yellow card for the now-suspended Oriol Romeu, there was little disappointment for Hasenhuttl with the showing against Man City.

The Cottagers have won only once against Southampton, in November 2018 and will look to avoid the third straight defeat against the Saints, who have 5 wins in the last 10 head-to-head clashes.
Fulham also haven’t found the net in the last season's defeats to the Saints and will count on Ademola Lookman to put another fine performance with his effective deliveries from the left and diligent Gabonese midfielder Mario Lemina. Fulham appear to be finally getting their rewards for their methodical approach to the game and will be a tough nut to crack for the visitors.
Though beaten on Saturday, Hasenhuttl's well-drilled side will still feel they can threaten the established order when they visit London to play Fulham. The Saints failed to score against City for the first time since their season opener in September and will aim to keep their six-game unbeaten run (W3, D3) on the road in the Premier League.
