FULHAM VS WEST HAM MATCH ANALYSIS
The Cottagers have been playing far better football than their current league position (18th) suggests. They have drawn seven of their last 11 PL matches (L4), drawing 2-2 last time out at West Brom, prior to their 2-0 defeat against Leicester at home. They will look to upset the in-form Londoners at the weekend as they need to start turning some of those draws into wins. As for David Moyes’ side, their four-game winning run in the league ended against Liverpool at home (1-3) last Sunday. This was Hammers’ only top-flight loss in eight matches (W5, D2) which have propelled them into 5th place, four points behind Leicester in 4th.
The hosts demonstrated that they are no pushovers recently, but they are making a habit of being on the rough end of fine margins. While the Cottagers have tightened things up at the back, they’ll continue to struggle if they don’t create an attacking platform. Seven draws and two defeats by a single goal in their last eleven fixtures suggest their battle against the drop will go right down to the wire. Scott Parker's side indeed seem improved, but they still find it hard to win games - which is why they are still in the bottom three.
Parker denied the suggestion that time is running out for his side in the PremierLeague relegation battle following their 2-0 loss to high-flying Leicester City on Wednesday night, but the stats look increasingly bleak for the Cottagers. That defeat to the Foxes, coupled with Brighton & Hove Albion's shock win at Liverpool, means that the gap to safety is now eight points with 17 games remaining - a steep mountain to climb for a team that has amassed just 14 points from their opening 21 outings.
David Moyes, on the other hand, has fashioned a very decent West Ham side that is disciplined while often creative and attack-minded. They have been rewarded for their enterprising play with some impressive results, notably big wins against Wolves and Leicester and draws at Manchester City and Tottenham. The Hammers are very much part of the teams that are within a touching distance of a Champions League berth and Moyes will be also be delighted with their defensive displays as of late.
The Hammers responded from a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool with a superb 3-1 win away to high-flying Aston Villa on Wednesday night. The Hammers were once again impressive at Villa Park, leaving David Moyes's side fifth in the standings and only two points behind defending champions Liverpool in fourth. Indeed, their tally of 38 points from 22 games is their highest at this stage of a top-flight season since 1985-86, when they went on to finish in third place.

These two teams’ home and away form stand are contrasted quite neatly – Fulham has lost four and drawn one in five at home, while West Ham have been victorious in four and have drawn once on their travels. Visitors’ overall record when they meet is far superior – Hammers have 13 wins to Fulham’s 3 in their last 20 matches and have also won their last five head-to-heads, to boot.
If Fulham are to stay up, they need to improve rather sooner than later. Given that four of their next six games come against teams currently in the top six, they will need to pull off a few shocks along the way. Meanwhile, the prospect of a European spot is still very much a realistic one for the Hammers, with two of the bottom three coming in their next two league games.
