Genoa and Bologna struggled so far in the new season and will try to prove they play better than results suggest when they face each other on Saturday.
Davide Ballardini was happy with Genoa’s performance despite their defeat against Sassuolo. The Grifone lost the first game under their new coach after one win and one draw in the previous two matches. Jeremie Boga and Giacomo Raspadori secured the hard-fought 2-1 Sassuolo victory and the first Genoa defeat for Davide Ballardini on his birthday. The deadlock was eventually broken after the restart when Manuel Locatelli’s magnificent cross-field pass found Jeremie Boga down the left, he controlled, flicked it around Andrea Masiello, and buried the angled drive. Genoa replied with their Uzbekistan international Eldor Shomurodov, who climbed above the crowd for a glancing header on Ghiglione’s cross from the right. Sassuolo did get the winner eventually, Boga’s cross finding Italy Under-21 international Giacomo Raspadori for a towering header past Mattia Perin. Genoa remains involved in the race for Serie A survival with 11 points in 16 games.
The home side is without numerous squad members, as has been common throughout the campaign. Davide Biraschi, Francesco Cassata, Federico Marchetti, Goran Pandev, and Cristian Zapata are all out injured, with Edoardo Goldaniga suspended. There will be a tough choice for Genoa coach Ballardini to make between Gianluca Scamacca and Destro to partner Shomurodov upfront in a 3-5-2.
Genoa (3-5-2): Mattia Perin; Andrea Masiello, Ivan Radovanovic, Domenico Criscito; Lennart Czyborra, Lukas Lerager, Milan Badelj, Valon Behrami, Paolo Ghiglione; Marko Pjaca, Mattia Destro
Bologna, once again, played good football but didn't get a proper reward for their performance against Udinese. It was a four-goal thriller at the Stadio Dall’Ara, as Udinese fought back twice to hold 10-man Bologna in stoppages. Takehiro Tomiyasu celebrated a rare goal with his impressive header, wiped out by brave Roberto Pereyra finishing on the rebound from a Rodrigo De Paul effort. Matias Svanberg concluded the excellent Bologna team move for the second goal but was then sent off for a second bookable offense. Udinese pushed to the very end until Tolgay Arslan got the equalizer with the help of a deflection in stoppages.
Midfielder Nicolas Dominguez returns from suspension for Bologna, with Svanberg missing from the engine room due to his midweek dismissal. Mihajlovic also has Lorenzo De Silvestri, Gary Medel, goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski and Nicola Sansone unavailable through injury, but Aaron Hickey has returned after COVID-19 infection. Full-back Ibrahima Mbaye again misses out with a thigh strain. Musa Barrow, Riccardo Orsolini, and Roberto Soriano should start in support ex-Genoa veteran Rodrigo Palacio upfront.
Bologna (4-2-3-1): Angelo da Costa; Mitchell Dijks, Nehuen Paz, Danilo, Takehiro Tomiyasu; Andrea Poli, Jerdy Schouten; Musa Barrow, Roberto Soriano, Riccardo Orsolini; Rodrigo Palacio

Genoa and Bologna are struggling to get points for their performances, as series of defensive errors are erasing their effort on the other end. Both teams to score looks like the most reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
