Genoa (3-5-2) faces Crotone (3-5-2) at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genova in the first round of Serie A 2020/21 on Sunday 20 September 2020 at 15:00.
Genoa is coming from a bad previous season. They ended the previous season on 17th place and they were very close from being demoted, since they had in the last round, just 1 point more than Lecce, who was on the 18th place. Fortunately for them , they won against Verona in the last round, instead of Lecce who lost against Parma. This could be one more motivation to start this new season with the right foot, and absolutely forget the previous one. Since they came back in Serie A more than 10 years ago, they were never so close to get demoted back in Serie B just like in the previous season. This Sunday afternoon they will start their new season, by hosting the new entry Crotone. On the card, this should be an easy game for them, but, they should better get focused anyway.
Their coach, Rolando Maran, believes that his players can make him happy with a victory in the first round. He knows he can count on all of his players, specially on legendary Italian left back Domenico Criscito (8 goals in Serie A 2019/20), who has proved how much important he is for his club, by also being one of the main scorers in previous season, just like very expert Danish midfielder Lasse Schone (2 goals and 3 assists in Serie A 2019/20), who can be very useful in both offensive and defensive phases. Last but not least, legendary Macedonian forward Goran Pandev (9 goals and 1 assist in Serie A 2019/20), club's main scorer in previous season, who is known for being cold-blooded in front of the keeper.
As we take a look to the away team, we have Crotone, who will play their first match of this new season in Genova. Crotone is back in Serie A after 2 years of playing in the second most prestigious Italian League of all. They ended the previous season in Serie B on the 2nd place, behind Benevento. They came back with only one object, which is remain in the first Italian league as long as they can. Their first game will be against Genoa, who surely won't give them any discount, so they should better come prepared for first match in Serie A after 2 long seasons.
Their coach, Giovanni Stroppa, believes that his players can achieve at least a draw in Genova this Sunday. He knows he can count on all of his players, starting from the duo in midfield composed by Lebanese midfielder Ahmad Benali (7 goals and 1 assist in Serie B 2019/20) and his partner, Brazilian midfielder Junior Messias (6 goals and 4 assists in Serie B 2019/20), to be both useful in both offensive and defensive phases, and create some dangerous attempts by giving some good balls to their teammates in the attack zone. Genova's defenders should better keep their eyes opened on Crotone's main scorer in the previous season, Nigerian Simy (20 goals and 4 assists in Serie B 2019/20), who has proved how dangerous he can be in Serie B last season.
This will be the 5th time they face each other. Genoa is leading with 3 victories, instead of Crotone who has never won. There is also 1 draw. The last time they have faced each other was in the 2017/18 season, Genoa won (Genoa 1-0 Crotone).

This match will be full of goal chances. Both teams will spend most of the time by attacking each other and trying to score. Since this will be the first game of this new season, both clubs will give 100% of their possibilities to bring back home a victory, so that they can start in the right way this new journey.
After all I said about these two teams and the match, I would think that this game will end with a draw.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
