Genoa will try to exploit Inter’s fatigue of the UCL match on Wednesday as they host them on the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Saturday.
Genoa and Inter have suffered more from the virus than any other teams lately, except for Parma, as the Genoa had to postpone their match with Torino after 17 players and five members of staff tested positive. Genoa is still slowly recovering from the COVID-19 outbreak. Because of this situation, it’s difficult to predict who will be fit enough to start on Saturday and what form they will be in. Genoa had their first match since the outbreak, a dismal draw with Verona, but ex-Inter striker Goran Pandev will be fired up for the meeting with his old club.
Genoa played their first competitive game in three weeks after a Coronavirus outbreak that hit the team vs Hellas Verona on Monday. Their Director of Sport Daniele Faggiano revealed before the game that 13 members of the team are still positive. Several players got a green light for playing and Mattia Perin, the first player to caught the virus, recovered and started in goal. The Juventus loanee had a brilliant night. Verona tried hard, made a decent start but Genoa always seemed dangerous with counter-attacks, at least in the first half. The hosts stung Perin’s gloves a couple of times but Genoa had their best chance of the game with Goran Pandev who forced Marco Silvestri to concede a corner kick. Ebrima Colley came close to scoring one minute later but his effort was deflected wide by Perin who also tipped over the bar a header of Favilli minutes before the half-time whistle.
Verona tried to push forward in the second half and Perin was forced to make several saves although many of them were easy. The most difficult one was made to deny a header of Davide Faraoni who tried to make the most of the assist of Federico Dimarco. Genoa couldn’t make a single shot on target in the second half but was very focused defensively and managed to come back home with a very good draw.
Genoa (3-5-2): Perin; Goldaniga, C Zapata, Masiello; Ghiglione, Badelj, Radovanovic, Rovella, Czyborra; Pandev, Scamacca
Suspended: None
Injured: Sturaro, Males, Zajc
Inter have been stuttering in both Serie A and the Champions League lately, Achraf Hakimi was the latest Nerazzurri man to contract Coronavirus just hours before the 2-2 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday. Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s early brace – including a rebound from his saved penalty – allowed Milan to stay top with a perfect record, beating Inter 2-1 in the intense Derby Della Madonnina. The Nerazzurri missed Alessandro Bastoni, Milan Skriniar, Roberto Gagliardini, Ashley Young, Radja Nainggolan, and Ionut Radu due to Coronavirus, with Stefano Sensi suspended, Alexis Sanchez not fully fit and Matias Vecino injured.
Aleksandar Kolarov gifted Milan an early penalty for his reckless tackle on Ibrahimovic. Samir Handanovic confirmed his status as the best spot-kick stopper in Serie A but could do nothing on Ibrahimovic’s rebound tap-in. The Rossoneri doubled their lead moments later with a perfect counter-attacking move. Davide Calabria charged down two Ivan Perisic crosses, Hakan Calhanoglu’s cross-field pass sent Rafael Leao down the left and his cross was tapped in by Ibrahimovic at the back post.
Inter got back into it with the first goal Milan have conceded in Serie A this season, as Perisic got down the left and pulled it back across the six-yard box for the Romelu Lukaku tap-in from five yards. Lautaro Martinez thought he had equalized when the header from Hakimi’s cross on the counter looped over Donnarumma, but Simon Kjaer was there to clear off the line.
Inter came close to an equalizer on the hour mark, Arturo Vidal floating a ball to the back post for unmarked Hakimi, whose diving header whistled inches wide of the far stick. Lukaku threatened again in stoppages after a give-and-go with Barella, sticking out a long leg to prod past both Donnarumma and the far post. There was one more scare with the last kick of the game, a Lukaku back-heel flick not enough to surprise Donnarumma, as Milan won their first Serie A derby since January 2016.
Inter (3-4-1-2): Handanovic; Darmian, De Vrij, Kolarov; D’Ambrosio, Brozovic, Vidal, Perisic; Barella; R Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez
Suspended: None
Injured: Vecino, Skriniar, Gagliardini, Radu, Young, Hakimi, Alexis Sanchez

Inter doesn’t look good at the moment, the defense is shaky, they are conceding goals and they must find a way to stop that. Lukaku is their key player and if Genoa can stop him they have a chance for a positive result. The best option is to follow trends, so both teams to score in Inter games should be the most reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
