Roma faces Genoa at Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday without their star striker Edin Dzeko who has tested positive for COVID-19.
Genoa will play three games in eight days and the next match against Roma should show are they capable to turn performances into better results. Derby Della Lanterna against Sampdoria showed faith in better days but loss vs winless Torino didn't help in building confidence. There were two well-taken goals from Jakub Jankto and Gianluca Scamacca to decide the city derby. Goalscoring 1-1 draw was satisfying for Genoa because Sampdoria were the favorites going in and took the lead when Jankto unleashed a ferocious strike from distance into the far top corner, surprising Mattia Perin. Scamacca got Genoa back on track and netted his memorable first-ever Serie A goal, turning on a Lukas Lerager assist. Both Emil Audero and Perin made important saves, with Keita Balde Diao denied by the woodwork.
On Wednesday, Torino finally celebrated their first Serie A victory of the season, conquering Genoa 2-1 at Marassi in the rescheduled Week 3 match. This fixture was postponed in early October due to the COVID outbreak at Genoa, which affected 17 players and five members of staff. Toro took the lead when Edoardo Goldaniga tried to cut out a cross, but instead accidentally set it up for Sasa Lukic to fire in at the near bottom corner. Torino doubled their lead when Belotti rolled a ball across from the left and in an attempt to anticipate Lukic from five yards, Luca Pellegrini accidentally bundled into his net. Scamacca scored his first-ever Serie A goal at the weekend in the Derby Della Lanterna and found the net again here, making the most of substitute Goran Pandev’s assist to blast in at the near post with his right boot. It was too late to complete the comeback, although the Grifone certainly tried, with goalkeeper Mattia Perin going up for a free-kick.
Genoa has no more cases of Coronavirus but coach Rolando Maran is under great pressure and must do in a very important match without three players: Stefano Sturaro, Davide Zappacosta, and Francesco Cassata who have all suffered muscular injuries.
Genoa (4-3-1-2): Perin; Biraschi, Goldaniga, Zapata, Criscito; Behrami, Badelj, Rovella; Zajc; Pandev, Scamacca
Suspended:
Injured: Sturaro, Zappacosta, Cassata
Roma also had double shifts in the last week and they were victorious and impressive against Fiorentina and Cluj in the UEL. Leonardo Spinazzola caught the Fiorentina defense napping and Pedro Rodriguez finished a well-worked team goal as Roma emerged 2-0 winners. The Giallorossi had some early scares, but after Spinazzola made the most of a long ball to break the deadlock, it was relatively easy for Paulo Fonseca’s men. Pedro completed the victory by tapping in at the back post from a Henrikh Mkhitaryan assist. Bartlomiej Dragowski kept the scoreline down with some fine saves in the Viola goal.
Roma eased past CFR Cluj to go clear at the top of their Europa League group with a 5-0 victory, including Borja Mayoral brace. It barely took a minute to break the deadlock, as Leonardo Spinazzola’s cross from the left found Henrikh Mkhitaryan for a free header from six yards. Cluj had an issue with marking and went 2-0 down when Roger Ibanez was allowed a free header on a corner. The Giallorossi got the third with a well-worked goal, as Mkhitaryan’s cross to the back post was knocked down by Bruno Peres for Borja Mayoral to turn in from six yards, his first goal in the Roma jersey. Borja Mayoral completed his brace late on, as the Bruno Peres cross was flicked on by a defender and he was ready to fire in at the far post. There was also a fifth for Pedro Rodriguez, who ran on to the assist from youngster Milanese to beat the on-rushing goalkeeper from a tight angle.
Paulo Fonseca will replace Dzeko with Borja Mayoral who scored the first two goals for Roma in a Europa League clash against Cluj earlier this week. Chris Smalling will return to action while Amadou Diawara can't be included in the team as he still tests positive for COVID.
Roma (3-4-2-1): Mirante; Ibanez, Smalling, Mancini; Karsdorp, Veretout, Pellegrini, Spinazzola; Pedro, Mkhitaryan, Mayoral
Suspended:
Injured: Santon, Pastore, Zaniolo, Dzeko, Calafiori, Diawara

Genoa has some trouble finding the net and Roma tightened the defense and with coach Maran under the pressure to earn some points it could be a low scoring affair with under 2,5 as the most preferable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
