Genoa and Spezia are hovering five points above the relegation zone ahead of their meeting in the Liguria derby. Read our reasons for Genoa vs Spezia prediction and betting tips.
Genoa coach Davide Ballardini said the match against Spezia ‘represents an important game for the table’. Ballardini was brought back to replace Rolando Maran and started his current stint against the Aquilotti, but the Grifone’s situation has changed drastically since then. The coach returned for his fourth period at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and the team has picked up 26 points since the 57-year-old returned and climbed to 14th in the League. “It was a game that was played against an established team and that had an excellent position in the table,” Ballardini told the media. “That was then. Now, we have the same points. Spezia is a pleasant surprise in this championship and this is what has happened since that game until today. This game represents a very important match for the table. There are a few games to play and each match has an increasingly important weight.”
Genoa forward Goran Pandev scored a brace when the Rossoblu came back twice against Benevento to secure a point against the Streghe last time. But the coach doesn’t think the relegation battle is over for Genoa and said: “There are top teams behind. Therefore, the top-level teams, from now until the end, will certainly perform and score points. Today, I don’t know how many points are needed.”

Spezia coach Vincenzo Italiano said the draw with Serie A leaders Inter boosted the Aquilotti ahead of an important month in the relegation battle. After a prestigious draw against League leaders Inter, the Aquilotti prepare for the match in the relegation battle against Genoa. The coach was happy to see his men respond with a 1-1 result against the Nerazzurri and ‘redeem’ the 4-1 defeat to Bologna. “The main problem for us was to redeem the non-positive test in Bologna,” Italiano said to the media.
“We wanted to do it immediately to face the last month with a certain kind of mentality. To resume the way we did with Inter was not easy. Even though a sacrificial performance and where we also had to defend ourselves. I always say that when we are called into question in this respect, we must do it well and I think we deserved a point in the end. It left us with great awareness for this last month, that we must always try.” Spezia sits 15th in Serie A with 33 points from 32 games, five points above Cagliari at 18th in the table.
Spezia (4-3-3): Provedel; Ferrer, Ismajli, Terzi, Marchizza; Estevez, M Ricci, Maggiore; Gyasi, Nzola, Verde

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
