Hertha Berlin got a great leader on and off the field in Sami Khedira and will hope his big-game experience can make difference in Saturday's relegation six-pointer with Koln. Read our Hertha vs Koln prediction and betting tips.
Ex German international Khedira has helped the Hertha to some crucial points in games against city rivals Union, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Mainz, and Freiburg in recent weeks. The 2014 FIFA World Cup winner missed the goalless draw with Arminia Bielefeld and midweek win over relegated Schalke but is in contention this weekend. Unbeaten in seven and with a three-point cushion on the relegation play-off spot, Pal Dardai's men have their fate firmly in their own hands and will be safe if results go their way on the penultimate weekend. Dardai will almost certainly shuffle his pack following a run of four games in less than 10 days.
Strikers Krzysztof Piatek and Jhon Cordoba are out with ankle injuries, which made Jessic Ngankam's star-turn against Schalke particularly timely. Top scorer Matheus Cunha, Arsenal-owned midfielder Matteo Guendouzi and first-choice goalkeeper Rune Jarstein are also sidelined. Hertha has claimed 11 points from a possible 15 in their last five home matches - the same tally as Cologne in their 16 home fixtures across the entire campaign so far.
Hertha: Schwolow - Klünter, Stark (c), M. Dardai - Zeefuik, Ascacibar, Tousart, Plattenhardt - Radonjic, Ngankam, Dilrosun
Out: Cunha (ankle), Cordoba (ankle), Darida (suspended), Guendouzi (foot), Jarstein (match fitness), Lukebakio (suspended), Netz (foot), Piatek (ankle)
Doubtful: Khedira (calf), Mittelstädt (concussion)
Coach: Pal Dardai
Another Hertha victory could spell curtains for Koln. Second from bottom, with a two-point deficit to recover on Bielefeld and Werder Bremen, the Billy Goats will join Schalke in Bundesliga 2 next season if they fail to win and the two teams above them take maximum points against Hoffenheim and Augsburg respectively. Avoiding defeat, on the other hand, would at least take the Cathedral City club's survival fight to their final day clash with Schalke, no matter how their fellow strugglers fare. Koln's prospects are not helped by an injury to captain Jonas Hector. It remains to be seen what part - if any - he has to play in the capital after suffering a gashed leg injury in the 4-1 home loss to Freiburg. Interim coach Friedhelm Funkel, who will be replaced by Steffen Baumgart next season, could look to former Schalke and Crystal Palace midfielder Max Meyer to compensate.
Koln: T. Horn (c) - Ehizibue, Bornauw, Czichos, J. Horn - Skhiri, Meyer - Wolf, Duda, Kainz - Andersson
Out: Dennis (knock)
Doubtful: Höger (groin), Hector (leg)
Coach: Friedhelm Funkel

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
