Hertha Berlin will look to Krzysztof Piatek for the goals needed to ease their relegation concerns when they host free-falling Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday. Read our reasons for Hertha Berlin vs Leverkusen prediction and betting tips.
This will be the 50th time these two clubs meet in the Bundesliga, with Leverkusen holding the edge with 24 wins to Hertha's 13. If Hertha can start to redress that on Sunday, their reward could be a place above the relegation zone for the international break, but Pal Dardai's men have only won once since the Hungarian coach returned to the club - a 2-1 defeat of Augsburg - and they come into this game off a 2-0 loss at Borussia Dortmund, a result which had more consequences than just the loss of points, with a red card to Vladimir Darida earning him a three-game suspension. Hertha has had 21 points after 25 matches three times before. On each occasion, they have been relegated.
Fortunately for Dardai, Santiago Ascacibar is available again after missing the trip to Dortmund and he can slot into the center of the midfield, with Matheus Cunha providing support to Krzysztof Piatek and Jhon Cordoba after recovering from a thigh injury. Sami Khedira is still ruled out with a calf injury, though, depriving Dardai of some valuable experience at the center of the park.
Hertha: Jarstein - Klünter, Stark (c), M. Dardai - Zeefuik, Ascacibar, Tousart, Mittelstädt - Cunha - Piatek, Cordoba
Out: Boyata (foot), Darida (suspended), Khedira (calf), Löwen (knock)
Doubtful: Radonjic (groin)
Coach: Pal Dardai
With six defeats from their past 10 games in all competitions, Leverkusen's season has taken a turn for the worse of late and, after being eliminated from this season's UEFA Europa League, Peter Bosz's men urgently need to return to winning ways to ensure they will be playing in Europe again next season. Leverkusen has failed to score a first-half goal in their previous four Bundesliga outings. Their last five league goals have fallen on or after the 70th minute.
The return to action of Florian Wirtz as a second-half substitute in the 2-1 defeat to Arminia Bielefeld last weekend comes as a welcome boost for Bosz, who is set to start the 17-year-old fresh from his first nomination to the senior Germany squad. Kerem Demirbay is likely to make way, while Demarai Gray and Leon Bailey are both vying for one jersey alongside Patrik Schick and Moussa Diaby in the attack. Bailey has scored six and assisted six in 23 Bundesliga appearances so far this season, but has only had a direct hand in four goals in 11 matches since the turn of the year.
Leverkusen: Grill - Frimpong, Tah, Tapsoba, Wendell - Wirtz, Aranguiz (c), Amiri - Bailey, Schick, Diaby
Out: Arias (ankle), Baumgartlinger (knee), L. Bender (knee), Fosu-Mensah (knee), Hradecky (heel), Paulinho (knee), Sinkgraven (thigh)
Doubtful: S. Bender (knee)
Coach: Peter Bosz

The Old Lady is averaging 10 shots per game under Dardai but has only scored four times. They have yet to keep a clean sheet in his seven matches back at the club. BettingKick’s Hertha vs Leverkusen prediction is: Both teams to score.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
