Hertha tried to reinforce on the last day of the transfer window to build the team capable to fight for the top places in the standings but newest member Matteo Guendouzi will have to wait for the debut past Saturday when Stuttgart comes to Berlin.
New loan signing Matteo Guendouzi will have to wait to make his Hertha Berlin debut. He was the last of Hertha's five summer signings made in 2020, joining the capital club on loan for the season from English Premier League side Arsenal on deadline day. The Frenchman captained his nation's U21s to victories over Lichtenstein and Slovakia in the international break but will not be included this weekend due to paper works regarding his license to play in the Bundesliga. With Santiago Ascacibar also missing, Maximilian Mittelstädt could come into midfield.
Bruno Labbadia's side has collected one win and two defeats for the start - the last of which came dramatically against Bayern Munich when Robert Levandowski scored from the penalty spot for the 4-3 Bayern win. Defender Jordan Torunarigha has an ankle injury, while winger Javairo Dilrosun has returned to training after a thigh problem which has kept him out of action in the Bundesliga so far this season. Jhon Cordoba and Matheus Cunha both scored at the Allianz Arena last time out and Cunha should be fit to start once again despite returning later return from international duty with Brazil. Cunha has eight goals and five assists to show for his first 15 Bundesliga appearances as a Hertha player.
Neither Hertha nor Stuttgart has scored in the opening 30 minutes of a match this term. However, Hertha has struck five times in the final 30; Stuttgart six. Hertha has scored and conceded eight goals across their first three matches. Only twice before have they posted higher numbers for each category.
Hertha: Schwolow - Pekarik, Stark, Boyata (c), Plattenhardt - Darida, Tousart, Mittelstädt - Cunha - Lukebakio, Cordoba
Out: Ascacibar (muscular), Guendouzi (not included), Torunarigha (ankle)
Doubtful: Klünter (pelvis)
Coach: Bruno Labbadia
Stuttgart is finally showing why they are promoted to the Bundesliga. They hold Bayer Leverkusen to a draw before the break having earned their first win of 2020/21 over Mainz a week earlier. With four points from three games, Stuttgart is enjoying their best start to a season since 2011/12, when Labbadia was the coach. He oversaw two 12th- and one sixth-place finish during his tenure. Despite missing the top scorer from their promotion-winning season last year, Nicolas Gonzalez, Stuttgart has not struggled to find the net with Sasa Kalajdzic and Silas Wamangituka - scorers of three and two goals respectively - hitting early season form. Kalajdzic is the first Stuttgart player since Sean Dundee back in 2002 to score in each of the first three games of a Bundesliga season.
Both should start once again for Pellegrino Matarazzo's side, but there's a concern for defender Waldemar Anton, who pulled up in training this week with an ankle issue. Pascal Stenzel could slot into a three-man backline in Anton's stead, while Naouirou Ahamada - the 18-year-old signed on loan from Juventus for the season - is pushing to be part of the matchday squad for the first time.
Stuttgart: Kobel - Stenzel, Mavropanos, Kempf - Endo - Silas, Mangala, Castro (c), Sosa - Didavi - Kalajdzic
Out: Awoudja (Achilles tendon)
Doubtful: Anton (ankle), Egloff (ankle), Gonzalez (thigh), Massimo (foot), Mola (hip)
Coach: Pellegrino Matarazzo

Hertha performances are on the rise and they are playing some beautiful football at times. Stuttgart is very dangerous with a young and powerful striking duo so both teams to score is a reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
