Ryan Sessegnon will be hoping to be back in time for Hoffenheim to host Jonas Hector and Koln in the final game of Matchday 18 on Sunday.
Sebastian Hoeneß hailed Hoffenheim's defense after their 3-0 win at Hertha Berlin on Tuesday, saying "it must be the foundation" of his side as they look to catapult themselves towards the top-half of the table. That shutout of their midweek hosts was a second clean sheet in succession for TSG, guaranteed by Oliver Baumann's first-half save from Krzysztof Piatek's penalty.
It was just a reward for a Hoffenheim outfit that has been hard hit by injuries in recent weeks, but this weekend's hosts did see top-scorer Andrej Kramaric get back among the goals with his Berlin brace and it does suggest Hoeneß's side are starting to turn a corner. There should be further encouraging news in the shape of Ryan Sessegnon, who looks to be fully recovered from injury having missed the last three matchdays. The on-loan Englishman should replace German teenager Marco John on the left.
Hoffenheim: Baumann (c) - Posch, Nordtveit, Adams - Rudy, Samassekou, Sessegnon - Kramaric, Baumgartner - Bebou, Dabbur
Out: Akpoguma (hamstring), Bicakcic (knee), Geiger (hamstring), Hübner (ankle), Stafylidis (shoulder)
Doubtful: Grillitsch (abdominals), Kaderabek (calf), Skov (muscular), Vogt (shoulder)
Coach: Sebastian Hoeneß
Koln got a similar midweek boost with a massive 2-1 win at Schalke on Wednesday. Jan Thielmann scored the vital winning goal in the third minute of stoppage time to push the Billy Goats eight points clear of the bottom two, while Arminia Bielefeld's victory over VfB Stuttgart kept them two points inside the relegation play-off spot. It was a masterstroke from coach Markus Gisdol, who had only brought on Thielmann minutes before the end to capitalize on Schalke's tired legs.
The 18-year-old may have earned a start after his display, but Ondrej Duda is expected to lead the attack once more. Ismail Jakobs was an unused substitute in midweek but should come in to start in front of Jannes Horn, who could replace the injured Rafael Czichos further back. Czichos left the game at half-time having scored the opener and remains a doubt to feature Sunday as part of Koln’s three-man defense.
Koln: T. Horn - Cestic, Bornauw, J. Horn - Ehizibue, Skhiri, Hector (c), Jakobs - Wolf, Drexler - Duda
Out: Andersson (knee), Kainz (knee)
Doubtful: Czichos (muscular)
Coach: Markus Gisdol

Koln has failed to win any of their last nine meetings with Hoffenheim, losing each of the last five. Both teams to score is the most reasonable betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
