Iceland will host a great team of Belgium in the thriller game on the north island of Europe.
As far as Iceland are concerned, Erik Hamren will want to build on Thursday night's excellent 2-1 victory over Romania in the Euro 2020 playoffs. After Gylfi Sigurdsson struck twice during the opening 45 minutes, the Scandinavian outfit were able to hold onto their lead to put them within one win of another appearance at a major tournament. Ideally, Hamren may have wanted the opportunity to rest several members of his limited squad, but facing the Belgium on home territory theoretically represents their best chance of getting maximum points on the board in this group. If Strakarnir Okkar suffer defeat in this contest, it would leave them requiring a minimum of four points to have a chance of avoiding relegation to Division B.
Belgium opened their Group 2 campaign with a 2-0 victory away to Denmark on September 5 before recording a 5-1 home victory over Iceland three days later. Roberto Martinez's side are therefore two points clear of second-placed England at the top of the section and will be looking to make it three victories in a row ahead of their next game away to Iceland. The Red Devils were unfortunate to miss out on a spot in the semi-finals of the 2018-19 UEFA Nations League as they won three of their four group matches against Switzerland and Iceland. A 5-2 loss to Switzerland in their final group game meant that they did not advance, though, and they will be keen to make a big impression this time around. Belgium saw a 12-game winning run come to an end on Thursday when they played out a 1-1 draw with the Ivory Coast, although it was very much an experimental XI from Martinez at Stade Roi Baudouin.
