Inter wasted the opportunity to become winter champions and now face tricky Benevento between two fiery Coppa Italia ties.
The Nerazzurri would’ve pipped Milan to first place last week if they’d beaten Udinese, but that 0-0 draw was just another in a long line of missed chances. Tuesday’s dramatic 2-1 Derby Della Madonnina victory in the Coppa Italia quarter-final drew focus, as will the upcoming semi-final against Juventus on February 3, all of which creates the risk they could underestimate Pippo Inzaghi’s Benevento. Inter are fighting Milan for the Scudetto and will now face Juventus in the Coppa Italia semi-final, to be played over two legs, with Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi suspended for the first game. Antonio Conte stated Inter would’ve beaten Milan in the Coppa Italia even without Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s red card and confirms Christian Eriksen is staying. ‘Nobody will arrive, nobody will leave.’
Eriksen got the winner with a stoppage-time free-kick, after Romelu Lukaku’s penalty canceled out the Ibrahimovic opener, but Milan was down to 10 from the 58th minute. “We are in the semi-final, the second year in a row we’ve made it here, so the players deserve credit for having the right approach from start to finish,” Conte told media. “It was a tough game, Milan is a strong team who are top of the table, so eliminating them in the quarter-finals is something to be happy about. Even 11 against 11 we had the chance to turn it around. I thought the result until the winner wasn’t fair. We took the initiative throughout, their goalkeeper was Man of the Match.”
Inter (3-5-2): Handanovic; Skriniar, De Vrij, Bastoni; Hakimi, Barella, Brozovic, Vidal, Young; Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez
Suspended: None
Injured: D’Ambrosio
Le Streghe is still comfortably mid-table, even if they have fallen away lately with one point from three rounds. Inzaghi’s men tried to hold onto the win but had to share the spoils with the visitors from Turin. Simone Zaza responded with a brace in a 2-2 draw between Benevento and Torino, in an entertaining match including three disallowed goals. The returning captain Viola gave Benevento the lead at half-time, as Salvatore Sirigu fouled Gianluca Lapadula and the referee awarded the home side a chance from the penalty spot. The 31-year-old scored in his first game of the season, as he was given a chance to shine in the absence of suspended Marco Sau. It went from bad to worse for the Granata when Lapadula found the bottom of the corner after 49 minutes.
Torino responded immediately with a cross from the right to find Zaza, who with a header pulled one back for the Granata and helped keep the game fully alive. Torino continued to push and threw on Simone Verdi to replace Sasa Lukic and seemed determined to create more chances to equalize. Hetemaj had a massive chance to kill the game off for the home side, with a half-volley just over the bar from 12 yards. Torino pushed until the end and Zaza first squandered an opportunity from a tight angle, but then showed up at the end of a Belotti through ball and made it 2-2 in stoppages.
Benevento (4-3-2-1): Montipò; Improta, Tuia, Glik, Barba; Hetemaj, Ionita, Tello; Caprari, Viola; Lapadula
Suspended: Sau
Injured: Letizia, Moncini, Volta

Inter could make it seven consecutive Serie A home victories for the first time since December 2018. Benevento could make them some problems so both teams to score looks like a valuable betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
