An exciting Derby Della Madonnina for the top of the table has been overshadowed by COVID-19 cases in both teams.
Inter started the season as arguably Scudetto favorites, The Nerazzurri were harder hit by the outbreak, losing Milan Skriniar, Radja Nainggolan, Ashley Young, Roberto Gagliardini, and Ionut Radu. Add to that list injured Matias Vecino and suspended Stefano Sensi, it’s suddenly a very short squad for Antonio Conte.
In the last round, Lazio and Inter shared the spoils at the Olimpico, but also the shame, as there were two red cards and some embarrassing play-acting. This was a Scudetto showdown last season, but the Lazio started in a bad way, losing 4-1 at home to Atalanta and with none of their relatively few summer signings ready to play. On the other side, Nerazzurri had won both games by scoring nine goals and conceding five. On the pitch Lazio was the better team, Samir Handanovic was the first to make a genuine save, reacting well at the near top corner when Luis Alberto managed to turn and get his shot away amid a crowd. The deadlock was broken moments later when Ivan Perisic went on a mazy run down the left, his effort was deflected and Lautaro pounced for the finish to squirm under Thomas Strakosha from 12 yards.
Romelu Lukaku skimmed the near post within seconds of the restart and Lautaro couldn’t turn in the Barella cross, but Lazio drew level instead. Francesco Acerbi floated a cross from the left and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic towered above Perisic to nod in from the tightest of angles. They were again dangerous in the air, Marco Parolo’s header flashing across the face of goal from a Luis Alberto corner, then the Spaniard stung Handanovic’s gloves with a strike. Arturo Vidal brought down Immobile from behind, bent down to apologize and the striker flapped at him with an angry hand. Vidal went down clutching his face, prompting a straight red card for a ‘reaction foul’ for Immobile and a booking for the Inter midfielder. Marcelo Brozovic’s attempt was deflected to bounce off the upright, Stefano Sensi and Patric both went to get the ball at the touchline. In doing so, Sensi shoved Patric, catching him ever so slightly in the face, and it was a repeat of the earlier incident with dramatic reaction and a red card for the Inter midfielder. Inter have won their last four Serie A meetings with Milan, the longest successful streak since five from 1979-83.
Inter (3-5-2): Handanovic; D’Ambrosio, De Vrij, Kolarov; Hakimi, Brozovic, Vidal, Barella, Perisic; R Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez
Suspended: Sensi
Injured: Vecino, Nainggolan, Skriniar, Gagliardini, Radu, Young
Milan built on Stefano Pioli’s improvements to open with a perfect record of three clean sheet victories. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has recovered from COVID-19 and is ready to start, although Ante Rebic is still out following a dislocated elbow.
Milan took a while to break down a Spezia, but Rafael Leao eventually bagged a brace around the Theo Hernandez solo run after Hakan Calhanoglu’s introduction. The Rossoneri had won all their games so far this season, they also went through a 2-2 draw in extra time away to Rio Ave, securing Europa League qualification after an epic shoot-out that required 24 penalties.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ante Rebic, Alessio Romagnoli, Leo Duarte, Mateo Musacchio, and Andrea Conti were still out of action, so Lorenzo Colombo, Brahim Diaz, Sandro Tonali, and Rafael Leao started in a very young XI against Spezia. Hakan Calhanoglu was introduced for the second half, moving Leao to a center-forward role, and it made a huge difference. The Turkey international set up Brahim Diaz to fire wide from the edge of the box, then his wonderful free-kick was whipped to the back post for Leao to turn in from four yards, opening the scoring.
Milan doubled their lead with Theo Hernandez, who pressed Agudelo into losing the ball in midfield, sprinted forward and thumped his low drive into the far bottom corner. Spezia finally crumbled after holding out so well and there was a third moments later. Franck Kessie nodded down the Saelemaekers cross and Leao tapped in from six yards.
Milan (4-2-3-1): G Donnarumma; Calabria, Kjaer, Romagnoli, Theo Hernandez; Bennacer, Kessie; Saelemaekers, Calhanoglu, Leao; Ibrahimovic
Suspended: None
Injured: Musacchio, Conti, Rebic, Duarte, Gabbia

Inter should be the favorite in normal circumstances but with the coronavirus situation, Milan could steal something from this derby. Both teams to score are the most reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
