Inter’s bad form continued in the Champions League midweek and they host a Parma side still struggling with a COVID outbreak at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
Inter wasted so many chances in Kiev, hitting the crossbar twice and Romelu Lukaku penalty appeals waved away in a 0-0 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk. The Nerazzurri welcomed Achraf Hakimi back after his ‘false positive’ COVID-19 test ruled him out of the 2-2 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach, while Stefan de Vrij also returned, but Alexis Sanchez, Stefano Sensi, Milan Skriniar, Roberto Gagliardini, Matias Vecino and Ionut Radu were still out and Christian Eriksen benched.
Inter beat Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0 in the Europa League semi-final back in August, but only four of the Ukrainian starting XI were playing two months later. Inter had the first real chances moments later, as Romelu Lukaku forced a save at the near post, then pulled back the rebound to the edge of the area for Nicolò Barella to smash against the crossbar. Lukaku’s glancing header whistled inches wide on a corner, Lukaku free-kick was pushed it on to the crossbar on 42 minutes in a remarkable save by Trubin who did well also on 54 minutes to beat away a Marcelo Brozovic strike, and Lautaro missed it well wide on the rebound from seven yards.
Antonio Conte can’t seem to get his team playing consistently and Lautaro Martinez is on particularly poor form, missing another sitter in the 0-0 draw at Shakhtar Donetsk. With Alexis Sanchez injured, there’s little choice but to keep pushing the Argentine, although Christian Eriksen should again be benched.
Inter (3-4-1-2): Handanovic; D’Ambrosio, De Vrij, Bastoni; Darmian, Vidal, Brozovic, Perisic; Barella; R Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez
Suspended: None
Injured: Vecino, Gagliardini, Alexis Sanchez, Sensi, Radu
Parma continued to struggle under new coach Fabio Liverani, but a huge COVID-19 outbreak has decimated his squad. They also played midweek with Wednesday’s 3-1 Coppa Italia win against Pescara. Spezia left the Stadio Tardini very frustrated last weekend, as they were leading 2-0, hit the woodwork three times, but were denied by a stoppage-time penalty. This was already turning into a relegation dogfight, as the Parma was struggling with a COVID-19 outbreak within the squad. Bruno Alves, Roberto Inglese, Matteo Scozzarella, Vincent Laurini, Jacopo Desi, and Mattia Sprocati were among the absentees.
It was Spezia who took the lead when a Simone Bastoni corner found Julian Chabot for what was practically a free header from nine yards to beat Sepe. Moments later, Spezia doubled their advantage, as Mbala Nzola laid it off with his back to goal for Kevin Agudelo to blast into the roof of the net from the edge of the area with his left foot.
Parma hit back immediately in a wide-open match, as a free-kick found Jasmin Kurtic’s header for an Ivan Provedel save and Riccardo Gagliolo was quickest to react on the rebound from close range. Deep into stoppages, Parma was awarded a soft penalty for a Claudio Terzi challenge on Andreas Cornelius. Juraj Kucka converted to snatch a point for the hosts.
Parma is unbeaten in their last four Serie A trips to Inter, drawing three and winning one.
Parma (4-3-1-2): Sepe; Grassi, Iacoponi, Gagliolo, Pezzella; Hernani, Brugman, Kurtic; Kucka; Cornelius, Gervinho
Suspended: None
Injured: Sprocati, Inglese, Bruno Alves, Dezi, Scozzarella, Valenti, Brunetta, Osorio, Busi, Mihaila

There is just one way to resolve the crisis and that is to manage some wins. Inter has hit the wall, performances are not so bad, but results are far from desired. They are great favorites to win the next game against the team that has issues on and off the field.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
