The heavyweight clash of Matchday 2 sees Juventus take on Barcelona in Torino, a rematch of the 2015 Champions League final including Arthur and Miralem Pjanic facing the clubs they left just a couple of months ago.
Juventus have been trying to get along with new boss Andrea Pirlo, they are looking decent but not spectacular. Their win on Matchday 1 was an uninspiring performance away to a Dynamo, with a Morata's brace. Their biggest win of the season, a 3-0 victory over Napoli, came as a result of a forfeit, the guests didn’t come to play because of the coronavirus crisis. At the weekend Juventus have to come from behind to get a 1-1 home draw with Verona. That's their third draw in four league games and in each, they were behind in the match. Those draws have left them fifth in the table.
Their attack has struggled to generate many throughout the start of the Serie A season, and their nine-year run of winning the title for the first time looks in danger. In games against Crotone, Roma, and Verona, they were scoring four and allowing four goals. Their defense still ranks fourth, but their attack is 10th in the league and they haven’t played any of the top defenses in the league to this point.
Juve without Ronaldo is an even bigger concern when you look at their 2019-20 numbers. Paulo Dybala is currently out of favor at the club under new manager Andrea Pirlo and did not start for them in last week’s CL match or the Serie A match at the weekend. There’s not a ton of established goal scoring and chance creating talent so they rely on the signings, Dejan Kulusevsky from Parma, Chiesa from Fiorentina, and above all, Alvaro Morata, who at the moment looks like the only one capable to find the net regularly.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Leonardo Bonucci, and Giorgio Chiellini will miss the game on Wednesday and center-back Matthijs de Ligt is also ruled out. Pirlo is likely to play a back-three with Danilo, Gianluca Frabotta, and Merih Demiral in the middle.
Barcelona has been in turmoil after Messi tried to walk off in the summer transfer window. They have problems adjusting to assignments from the new coach Ronald Koeman but they look from time to time exciting, especially in the first halves of games. With Leo Messi and Ansu Fati in form, they can run over anyone, but consistency and off-field problems could be higher than performances on the pitch.
Barcelona’s 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinal in August opened the holes into the defensive and midfield frailties of their aging side. The Messi affair just pointed the finger at them, but they started their Champions League campaign with a home fixture against Hungarian club Ferencváros. It took 27 minutes for the La Liga club to make the breakthrough but once they scored the opening goal there was only going to be one winner. A 5-1 win at home with five different scorers was healing for their fans.
A few days later, their confidence was broken. Barcelona was embarrassed in El Clasico as they lost 3-1 at home. Just four of their 10 shots landed on target and Messi didn’t help. He is in the middle of his worst goalscoring streak at Barcelona, scored just one goal in La Liga and one in the Champions League in six matches
Centre-back Gerard Pique will miss the game after being sent off on matchday 1. Barcelona remains without keeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen and defender Samuel Umtiti due to injury and playmaker Philippe Coutinho has joined them on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Juve has problems regarding their roster and scoring and Barcelona has issues on and off the pitch. It is very hard to predict which side has the advantage but the most reasonable bet at this moment must be both teams to score. With these teams favorites for top places in this group, a goalscoring draw could be a satisfying result for both.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
