The Bianconeri needed a response after the Champions League exit to 10-man Porto and they got it from Ronaldo with a hat-trick in the opening 32 minutes. Wojciech Szczesny was unable to keep a clean sheet, beaten by Giovanni Simeone in the second half for a 3-1 final result. “It was the right approach, which we needed after failing to qualify the other day, and we started on the right foot,” Pirlo told the media. The coach was asked about the tactics used because people cannot seem to decide if Juve is playing with a 3-5-2 or a 4-4-2. “Danilo is an intelligent player who can have his say in any role. We are trying him here at the moment because we know he can make an impact there. We had three in defense in possession, with Juan Cuadrado pushing up and Dejan Kulusevski coming more inside. We defend with four, but then play out from the back with three. The idea was to leave gaps for Cuadrado to push up, bringing Kulusevski more central. Kulusevski can be more in midfield in the future, we had to use him as a second striker to make up for absences. Naturally, once we have two genuine strikers upfront, our game works better.”
Before the Ronaldo hat-trick, CR7 was booked for dangerous play when going in very high and catching Cragno on the chin. Should that have been a red card? “I think it was a classic situation during play, both of them were looking at the ball and didn’t realize how close they were,” shrugged Pirlo. The hat-trick was certainly a response to the criticism and anger from their Champions League exit to Porto. “He was angry the same way everyone was after the missed qualification, but he did his talking on the pitch with three goals and that’s all that matters. All we can do is focus on our results, getting as many points as possible, winning as many games as possible, and then at the end seeing where we are.”

Benevento director Pasquale Foggia spoke to the media instead of coach Pippo Inzaghi and confirmed a training retreat. ‘There are ways to lose and this is not one of them.’ Le Streghe was 3-0 down at half-time to Fiorentina with a Dusan Vlahovic hat-trick, then seemed like a different team after the break. They scored a goal, came very close to 3-2, before capitulating 4-1. “It’s right at this moment that the team and coach isolate themselves, focus on the issues we need to resolve, and try to lock out what’s coming in from the outside,” Foggia told the media when he arrived for the interviews rather than coach Inzaghi. “I can confirm that the team will go into a training retreat because the situation has been dragging on for a while now. It’s evident there are difficulties, and I feel they are psychological more than physical or tactical because it’s the same team as in the first half of the season, but the performances are completely different. The coach, directors, players, we are all in the same boat and as men, we need to look each other in the eye to find a way out of this situation. Considering our target, 26 points is not bad at this stage of the season. However, there are ways of not getting points, and failing to react at all until we’re 3-0 down is not acceptable. There are ways to lose and this is not one of them.“
Filippo Inzaghi denied Benevento is in a crisis ahead of the match against Juventus. ‘Maybe we went beyond our potential in the first part’. Benevento is fighting at the other end of the table and Inzaghi hopes to see his men ‘rediscover’ their previous form. “Against Juventus, we must play as we did until a month ago,” Inzaghi said at a press conference. “The real Benevento is that of the 26 previous games. We must rediscover our character. We face one of the best teams in Europe and it seems almost superfluous to point it out. I saw the lads work in the best way and this makes me confident. Even in the first leg, we were theoretically beaten.”
Benevento sits four points above relegation after a run of 11 games without a win but Inzaghi doesn’t feel there’s a crisis at the Stadio Vigorito. “You know well that I disagree with this analysis,” he said. “I would limit it to the last two to three games. At the start of the second round, we did well against Torino, Bologna, and Sampdoria. Maybe we went beyond our potential in the first part and now we have to get back up. ''

Suspended: Glik, Schiattarella
Injured: Letizia, Depaoli, Iago Falque

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
