Juventus host Bologna at lunchtime on Sunday and the Old Lady aim to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat to Inter in Serie A.
Juventus picked up their first trophy in 2020-21 with a 2-0 win against Napoli in the Supercoppa Italiana and have thus won at least one trophy in 10 consecutive years. But Andrea Pirlo’s men sit fifth in Serie A and are 10 points behind league leaders Milan ahead of this weekend’s fixture, but with one game in hand. Andrea Pirlo celebrated his first trophy as a coach, this is the first piece of silverware in his coaching career, even if he’s won it all as a player, beating former teammate Gennaro Gattuso’s Napoli 2-0.
Cristiano Ronaldo broke the deadlock by pouncing on a lucky ricochet from a corner, then Lorenzo Insigne missed a penalty. With Napoli pouring forward, Alvaro Morata completed the counter with the last kick of the game. “Rarely, two teams play well in a Final, the important thing is to win. When you play with this determination, then luck can go on your side. We wanted to prove that we are not the team seen against Inter, so when you play with this grit, determination, and attitude, you draw luck your way.”
Juan Cuadrado was not meant to be in the squad for this game, but was given the all-clear from COVID this morning and rushed through a medical to start, going on to be one of the most impressive players. The pressure was on Pirlo after the 2-0 Serie A defeat to Inter, so this victory silences some of the critics, whose coverage in the media seems to bounce between hero and zero.
Juventus (3-5-2): Szczesny; Dragusin, Bonucci, Danilo; Cuadrado, Rabiot, Bentancur, Arthur, Bernardeschi; Morata, Ronaldo
Suspended: none
Injured: Alex Sandro, De Ligt, Dybala, Demiral
Bologna aims to make life difficult for the Bianconeri and can take confidence from a 1-0 win over Hellas Verona last time. Sinisa Mihajlovic stated Bologna ‘rediscovered that determination and desperation to win at all costs’ to beat Verona 1-0 and end their negative streak. The Rossoblu had been without a win in eight rounds, going back to November 29, but also kept a rare clean sheet. “I would like to thank Ivan Juric and congratulate him because he was honest in saying we played better. Not everyone would say that, so he deserves a lot of credit for that honesty,” Mihajlovic told media, coming to the cameras just after his colleague.
Bologna decided the game with a Riccardo Orsolini penalty but wasted some other scoring opportunities. “We need to be more daring, as we get into these situations and need to take the risk of potentially making a mistake because you need that in football. Sometimes we try to walk the ball into the net and that’s just not possible.”
Musa Barrow was moved to the center-forward role, sending Rodrigo Palacio to the bench. “We are working with Musa, he is a very intelligent young man who learns quickly. He must attack the space and get into better situations because he has the goal in his blood. Palacio is a different type of striker, less effective in the finishing, but who creates spaces for his teammates and builds situations. I don’t like to talk about individuals, but we are one team with Matias Svanberg and a very different one without him. You give him a messy ball, he’ll clean it up.''
Bologna (4-2-3-1): Skorupski; De Silvestri, Danilo, Tomiyasu, Dijks; Schouten, Dominguez; Orsolini, Soriano, Sansone; Palacio
Suspended: none
Injured: Santander, Medel

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
