Andrea Pirlo explained what went wrong for Juventus this season and their biggest regrets, but after beating Napoli 2-1, he insists he’d ‘make all those mistakes again.’ Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala secured the 2-1 victory, aside from a late Lorenzo Insigne penalty in Turin, during this head-to-head for fourth place. “When you have this spirit, when you sacrifice yourself to cover for your teammate who is out of position, this is the result and it’s perhaps what we were missing in other games,” Pirlo told the media. “We had practiced this approach with two wide wingers, creating space for Chiesa and Cuadrado. I am just sorry we didn’t make more of the counter-attacks, because we should’ve scored more goals. I tried to drill this style of football into the team from the start of the season, but we played every three days until recently, the players kept changing and we didn’t have time to work on it. We were often not quite fired up enough against the teams lower down the table and unconsciously were distracted, trying to resolve those games with individual moves rather than as a team. We learned that we cannot afford to do that, we need to give our all in every match, as every Serie A fixture is tough against well-organized teams.”
The pressure is building on Pirlo, with reports suggesting that the coach would be fired if he lost rescheduled Week 3 game. “I knew this was the job of a coach before I took over, so I was not unprepared. Having positive COVID cases just before the game and doubts right to the end wasn’t helpful, but we’ve been in this situation all season. Missing a player like Dybala for such a long period is going to be a problem for any team. The others did well, but the more options to call upon, the better.” Pirlo looked back over the season so far, seeing Inter 11 points clear at the top of the Serie A table, and was asked about his regrets. “I made many mistakes, but I’d make them all again. This is my first season, I needed those experiences for the present and the future. This was a more complicated campaign not just for me, but for many other coaches too. Everyone makes mistakes, including me, but I can learn from them and not repeat them in the future. Our objective now is a top-four finish, because it’s difficult to get to the top. There are 10 games to go, it’s a mini-season we hope to win, and then prepare for the Coppa Italia.”

Davide Zappacosta said Genoa ‘cannot let the intensity drop even for a moment’ against Juventus on Sunday and praised Federico Chiesa. ‘He’s very dangerous’. The 28-year-old has contributed two goals and two assists in his 18 games with the Grifone and is enjoying a good season after having struggled to convince at Chelsea and Roma in recent years. Zappacosta said the match against Juventus is ‘very stimulating’ but claimed Genoa always ‘work hard regardless of the opponent’. “There’s enthusiasm, but we can’t let the intensity drop even for a moment, otherwise we will struggle,” Zappacosta told the media. “The match against Juventus is certainly very stimulating, but at the same time difficult. We prepare for it like all the other games, working hard regardless of the opponent. We have the enthusiasm and in the last days before the game, we will try to prepare ourselves in the best possible way.” Zappacosta has experienced a great season with the Rossoblu. “To be in form individually we need the whole team and now we are going through a good moment,” he continued. “At the beginning of the season, due to some injuries and COVID, I was out for several months and I was very sorry I couldn’t help the team. I’m happy to be back and give my best. We must continue on this path.”
Genoa (3-5-2): Perin; Masiello, Radovanovic, Criscito; Biraschi, Rovella, Badelj, Zajc, Zappacosta; Destro, Scamacca
Suspended: Strootman

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
