The two wins at the weekend were a great interlude for the semi-finals second leg of Copa Italia between Juventus and Inter with the hosts having a 2-1 advantage from last Tuesday.
Andrea Pirlo insisted Juventus always ‘prepared’ a defend and counter approach against Roma, and it paid off with a 2-0 victory. ‘We need different variations and alternatives.’ Cristiano Ronaldo scored a solo goal out of nowhere and Dejan Kulusevski’s pass was accidentally bundled into the net with Roger Ibanez. Paulo Fonseca said that Roma had ‘forced’ Juve into a defensive position, but his Bianconeri counterpart assures it was part of the plan. “We had prepared this type of match. We knew Roma plays very good football, so we were prepared to sit back, defend and then go on the counter,” Pirlo told the media.
Juventus changed their approach through the game, waited after the first goal scored by Ronaldo, but also pressed and attacked when rival showed vulnerability. “We have found the enthusiasm, are more solid and our defensive approach is more determined now because we learned from mistakes made in the past. The group has always been humble, known when it’s the time to run without the ball and when everyone needs to help out. Even the biggest champions do that and it’s a crucial element.”
Juventus will assess the extent of an injury to Leonardo Bonucci incurred in the win over Roma, with Andrea Pirlo hoping the veteran will be fit to start. Matthijs de Ligt is available and could even be partnered in central defense by Merih Demiral, as in the first leg. Gianluigi Buffon regains his place in goal as designated 'cup goalkeeper', while Rodrigo Bentancur should return in midfield after being suspended in the league at the weekend.
Juventus: Buffon; Cuadrado, de Ligt, Demiral, Danilo; Bernardeschi, Bentancur, Arthur, Chiesa; Kulusevski, Ronaldo
Inter assistant coach Cristian Stellini said he ‘followed the advice’ from suspended coach Antonio Conte in the 2-0 win over Fiorentina. ‘He’s our guide’. The Nerazzurri had Stellini in the dugout for the comfortable win in Florence, as Nicolò Barella and Ivan Perisic secured the three points that saw Inter climb above Milan ahead of this weekend’s fixtures. “We don’t want to put pressure on anyone, just thinking about our path,” Stellini told the media. “It was not easy to play in Florence just three days after our last match and thinking about the next. Games like these are always difficult, especially with two days of recovery. I’m satisfied, we created a lot of chances and our forwards worked well together.”
Conte watched the match from the stands, but the assistant revealed the bench followed his advice. “When you watch the game from the outside, with his charisma, then it’s always difficult,” he said. “You suffer more from being on the outside. For us, his advice and his help are important. We gladly take any advice that he tells us. It’s not difficult at all, what he says are very important things because he is our guide and we must follow him.”
Inter pair Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal miss out this week due to one-match Coppa Italia bans for the accumulation of yellow cards. Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi are now available for cup duty, having both missed the trip to Milan through suspension. Antonio Conte is set to bring Roberto Gagliardini into the central three of his 3-5-2 in place of Vidal after he replaced the Chilean midfielder at the break on Friday.
Inter: Handanovic; Skriniar, de Vrij, Bastoni; Hakimi, Barella, Eriksen, Gagliardini, Young; Martinez, Lukaku

Inter lost the first leg 2-1 but left another impression that they are a better team than Juventus as in the derby in the league when they won 2-0. Both teams to score is the most reasonable betting option, but also away win will not be a major surprise.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
