Serie A champions Inter Milan meet a free-falling Juventus side on Saturday in the Derby d'Italia. Read our Juventus vs Inter prediction and betting tips.
Andrea Pirlo explained the tactical plan that allowed Juventus to beat Sassuolo 3-1. ‘There were moments this season when we thought just wearing the Juve jersey was enough.’ The Bianconeri desperately needed a positive result after their 3-0 home defeat to Milan and it started badly when Sassuolo was awarded a penalty, but Gigi Buffon saved it. That allowed Juve to take the lead instead, winning 3-1 with Adrien Rabiot, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Paulo Dybala goals. “We can have a breather now and then dive headfirst into the next two games,” Pirlo told the media. “It wasn’t easy to get back on track after that defeat and especially against Sassuolo. We prepared it so we’d sit back, wait for Sassuolo with some very tight lines to stop them finding those spaces, then the plan was to win it back and go rapidly on the counter. Sassuolo pushes so many men forward, they leave gaps at the back. I used two very quick wing-backs like Federico Chiesa and Dejan Kulusevski to attack the space and we did it well. Champions in football are the ones who make the difference, and we have many of them, so tonight they made a big impact. It wasn’t easy for us to lift our heads, but we did, we are here, we are alive and kicking and will fight to the end.”
Milan and Atalanta won also so if they both win at the weekend too, then they are guaranteed a top-four finish, so it’ll be between Juve and Napoli. “We are aware that our destiny is no longer in our hands, but there’s no point looking back over regrets now. There were many moments during the season when we lowered our guard and weren’t 100 percent concentrated, perhaps thinking that just wearing the Juve jersey was enough to guarantee a victory. Unfortunately, that is not the case. In modern football, you have to face every team with the same mentality, hunger, and desire, because otherwise, you won’t get far. We’ve got to get it into our heads that we must suffer, have discipline and cohesion between all the players. The rest will follow. Too often we have made mistakes and made life difficult for ourselves with individual errors, so we need the utmost concentration in every minute and every second. On the penalty today, we gave it away so cheaply in the final third and it’s not the first time we’ve done that.”
Juventus: Szczesny; Danilo, De Ligt, Chiellini, Sandro; Cuadrado, Bentancur, Rabiot, Chiesa; Dybala, Ronaldo
Antonio Conte won’t hold a pre-match press conference before the game against Juventus as he wants to avoid questions about off-the-pitch matters. According to several reports in Italy, the Italian tactician will only talk to Inter TV, just like he did earlier this week before the game against Roma. The former Chelsea and Juventus boss has yet to talk to the media since Inter won the Serie A title two weeks ago. According to Il Corriere Dello Sport, Conte will do so only after meeting Inter President Steven Zhang. Zhang has reportedly asked Inter players to give up on two months' wages, but Inter players allegedly refused to take a pay cut.
Inter notched up their 15th consecutive Serie A home victory, although Roma did score a well-taken goal and hit the woodwork. The Nerazzurri were celebrating their Scudetto and continuing to rotate the squad, giving Ionut Radu his first start of the season and resting Lautaro Martinez. Inter debuted both their rather outlandish fourth choice kit and the new club anthem. Despite a good start from Roma, they went behind to the first real chance, as Matteo Darmian pulled back from the right and Marcelo Brozovic took it the first time to wrong-foot Daniel Fuzato at the near post. A long Nicolò Barella ball sent Romelu Lukaku running and he held off two defenders, distracting them so when he laid it off for Matias Vecino, the finish was simple.
Roma did get one back with a well-worked team move, including the inspired Edin Dzeko through ball for Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Sanchez sent Vecino through to force a save, but then limped off injured. Roma seemed much brighter after the restart and pushed hard for their equalizer. Edin Dzeko had a huge chance when he controlled with his back to goal, spun around from the edge of the area, and smashed the curler against the woodwork. Radu also denied Dzeko on-on-one, then a Stephan El Shaarawy curler and Bryan Cristante’s header skimmed the upright. There was still time for one more Inter goal, as Achraf Hakimi went on the counter and generously rolled it across for the Lukaku tap-in after drawing out Fuzato.
Inter: Handanovic; Skriniar, De Vrij, Bastoni; Hakimi, Barella, Brozovic, Sensi, Perisic; Lukaku, Martinez

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
