Juventus will try to keep their Scudetto chances alive on Saturday evening, as they welcome a very good Lazio. Read our reasons for Juventus vs Lazio prediction and betting tips.
Andrea Pirlo wished he ‘had more’ options to come off the bench and shake things up after his substitutions transformed Juventus against Spezia. It was a difficult struggle for an hour, much like the 4-1 win back in November, which was transformed by the substitutions. Federico Bernardeschi immediately provided the assist for Alvaro Morata, then set up Federico Chiesa’s goal, before Cristiano Ronaldo sealed it on the counter-attack. Spezia had a late penalty, but Wojciech Szczesny parried Andriy Galabinov’s spot-kick. “A slow start was more physical fatigue than psychological, which can happen when you have so many games with the same players,” Pirlo told media. “We tried to control the game and then when the fresh legs came on, we were sharper and able to make the most of our chances. It was important to push forward from midfield and attack the spaces more. We aim to create one-on-one situations down the wings and then put the ball into the box, where we have players who can do damage. Sometimes it’s the wingers and sometimes the full-backs. Bernardeschi has what it takes to be a full-back, he has good stamina, can cross, and has been working on this role, although obviously, he needs to improve defensively. We have a great squad, unfortunately, I haven’t been able to make as many changes as I wanted lately. We could do with more for squad rotation and to freshen things up with targeted changes during a game.”
The injury-hit Juventus will remain undermanned on Saturday evening, as Andrea Pirlo is once more set to be without the injured Giorgio Chiellini, while both Leonardo Bonucci and Juan Cuadrado are doubtful and full-back Gianluca Frabotta is suspended after picking up another yellow card against Spezia. However, Matthijs de Ligt has reportedly recovered from the knock which caused him to miss Tuesday's game, so should partner Merih Demiral in central defense, allowing Alex Sandro to switch back to the left flank. Injury-plagued forward Paulo Dybala and midfielder Arthur are also expected to remain sidelined through injury, while Weston McKennie will look to celebrate signing a permanent deal after a successful loan spell by keeping his place in the XI, at the expense of hit-and-miss midfield option Aaron Ramsey.
Juventus: Szczesny; Danilo, Demiral, De Ligt, Sandro; Chiesa, Bentancur, Rabiot, McKennie; Kulusevski, Ronaldo
Simone Inzaghi was ‘very disappointed by the reaction’ to a missed penalty, as Lazio seemed to crumble in a 2-0 defeat to Bologna. This was not the result they wanted just days after the 4-1 home defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Ciro Immobile saw his penalty saved and 80 seconds later Ibrahima Mbaye scored to put Bologna in front, then Nicola Sansone’s volley sealed it after the break. “An ambitious and strong team like ours should react differently. It is very bad to miss a penalty and then concede straight away,” Inzaghi told the media. “I thought we had the right approach, we dominated the game, but we are here talking about a painful 2-0 defeat, so we must leave these two losses behind us. Paradoxically, out of the last four matches against Sinisa Mihajlovic’s Bologna, this is the one where we struggled the least, yet we lost 2-0. We need to be more determined in front of the goal, get back on our feet against Torino midweek and I don’t want any excuses about Champions League fatigue. I’ll be honest, I am worried by the lack of a reaction we showed after negative incidents. Admittedly, our luck has not been great over the last couple of games, but a strong and ambitious team like ours has to react differently. The team played the way it needed to. We should’ve been more concentrated on the first goal, while the second was a stunner. Perhaps we could’ve played for another 100 minutes and not scored. Objectively, these two defeats hurt us and the team needs to get back to winning to put this behind us. Pepe Reina didn’t make a save today, yet we lost 2-0.”
Lazio wing-back Manuel Lazzari will sit out Saturday evening's events with a calf injury which he picked up in the loss at Bologna last weekend, while injured defenders Luiz Felipe and Stefan Radu are longer-term absences. More commonly a midfielder, Marco Parolo is expected to compete with error-prone Wesley Hoedt and January signing Mateo Musacchio for a place in Simone Inzaghi's patched-up back three, alongside Patric and Francesco Acerbi. Gonzalo Escalante returns from a ban, but will likely play second fiddle to Lucas Leiva in central midfield. Following his penalty miss at Dall'Ara, last year's Capocannoniere Ciro Immobile has scored only once in his past five matches but will start alongside Joaquin Correa in the attack.
Lazio: Reina; Patric, Parolo, Acerbi; Marusic, Milinkovic-Savic, Leiva, Alberto, Lulic; Correa, Immobile

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
