After their first league meeting of the season was postponed due to coronavirus controversy, Juventus and Napoli now finally meet in Turin on Wednesday. Read our reasons for Juventus vs Napoli prediction and betting tips.
Andrea Pirlo admitted Juventus ‘are making too many horizontal passes and that makes us predictable’ after a 2-2 draw with Torino in the Derby Della Mole. The Bianconeri fought back for a 2-2 draw, but considering their recent poor form, a point against a team in the relegation battle is hardly something to celebrate. Just like the 1-0 home defeat to Benevento, Juve shot themselves in the foot by giving away a goal with an awful back-pass, this time Dejan Kulusevski. “We had started well, taken the lead, and that’s the most difficult thing against teams that defend,” Pirlo told media. “As usual, we make life complicated for ourselves. We had hoped for a different second half, but we made that error straight away and had to get back into it. The error was similar to the one we conceded against Lazio, unfortunately, these are happening a bit too often and we have these lapses in concentration. We must learn that we cannot lose concentration for even a second because the moment we lose the ball, it’s only right that we are then punished. Mistakes happen, whether you are a player, a coach, or a referee. We have to stay fully focused, stay on our toes, and understand the moment we are going through. Some sharpness can be lacking after international duty, but we cannot afford to let go even for a moment now.”
Juve is now in fourth place, level with Napoli, and they go head-to-head with Gennaro Gattuso’s side in Wednesday’s rescheduled fixture. “When you don’t win, you cannot be satisfied. We know that we have to improve, we’re trying to win games, as that helps everyone relax. We’re dropping a lot of points along the way so far this season and naturally, we’ve got to do better. We have to work on many football principles, such as positions and movements, finding more movement between the lines, especially against teams that defend deep. At the moment, we are making too many horizontal passes and that makes us predictable.”
Central defenders Leonardo Bonucci and Merih Demiral - who both tested positive for COVID-19 during the international period - are still unavailable for Juventus. Guilty trio Weston McKennie, Paulo Dybala, and Arthur were omitted from the squad for the Turin Derby after involvement in a party at the American midfielder's home last week, but have been reintegrated ahead of this Wednesday's potentially crucial game.
Juventus: Szczesny; Cuadrado, De Ligt, Chiellini, Sandro; McKennie, Rabiot, Bentancur, Chiesa; Ronaldo, Morata
Napoli made life far more difficult than it needed to be in their dramatic 4-3 win over relegation-threatened Crotone. The starting pressure finally paid off when Giovanni Di Lorenzo burst down the right and pulled back for Lorenzo Insigne’s deflected strike. Napoli doubled their lead almost immediately, Fabian Ruiz floating a ball over the top for Insigne’s spectacular volleyed assist back across the face of goal, finding Victor Osimhen for the tap-in. Partenopei shot themselves in the foot with some comical defending to give it away inside their penalty area, Ahmad Benali’s cross allowing Nwankwo Simy to score undisturbed at the far post. Mertens restored the two-goal cushion with a magnificent free-kick from the edge of the box into the near top corner.
It should have been 4-1 before half-time, as Alex Cordaz made a remarkable save on Osimhen, but Mertens only hit the woodwork on the follow-up. Crotone got back into it again after the restart, as a corner was not cleared effectively and Simy got in front of Kostas Manolas to turn in from 10 yards. Napoli has been very vulnerable when playing out from the back and it happened again for 3-3, as Junior Messias caught Nikola Maksimovic in possession. Di Lorenzo had already provided an assist, but he added a goal with his solo effort, cutting inside from the right for a left-foot daisy-cutter into the far bottom corner. Napoli kept pushing to the end, with Insigne, Mertens, and Hirving Lozano off target but held on for the 4-3 win.
Visitors Napoli now have an almost full-strength squad, after an injury crisis contributed to their exit from the Europa League in February, so Gennaro Gattuso has some attacking selection dilemmas to resolve. Though Victor Osimhen has started to impress - and, crucially, find the net - the former Lille frontman faces competition from Dries Mertens for the center-forward spot if Gattuso decides to bring in Piotr Zielinski back into the side. The talented midfielder had been a doubt to face Crotone after a COVID-19 outbreak in the Poland squad, but he was given the all-clear to take a seat on the bench, with Mertens dropping into his deeper creative role.
Napoli: Meret; Di Lorenzo, Manolas, Koulibaly, Rui; Bakayoko, Ruiz; Politano, Zielinski, Insigne; Mertens

Juventus showed once again that they are more than vulnerable and with Pirlo trying to save the coaching role for the next season they must try to impress, something that must leave spaces for Napoli flying trio in the attack.
BettingKick’s Juventus vs Napoli prediction is: Both teams to score.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
