There is no good time to host Bayern Munchen but winless Koln have to do it on Saturday, trying to stop record-breaking goal machine Robert Lewandowski and champions of all competitions when they visit the RheinEnergieStadion.
Koln remains without a win this season and is in fact on a 15-game run without three points in the Bundesliga, stretching back to March. They began this campaign with a run of three defeats, but things have since picked up with back-to-back 1-1 draws against Eintracht Frankfurt and away at VfB Stuttgart. Goalkeeper Horn has been kept busy, with his 18 saves the fourth-most in the league, although Koln has fallen behind in every match so far in this season. Horn, Marco Höger, and Anthony Modeste have never been on the winning side against Bayern, despite nine attempts.
Koln has drawn level four times across the first five matchdays, with summer signing from Union Berlin, Sebastian Andersson, leading the scoring with his pair of goals. Coach Markus Gisdol is likely still without captain and talisman Jonas Hector with a neck problem. Christian Clemens is the sole survivor from the last time Koln beat the record champions, scoring in the 3-2 win – from 2-0 down – in February 2011, but hasn’t featured at all this season. In 2013, Koln sporting director Horst Heldt was the man responsible for signing Goretzka when he held the same position at Schalke.
Koln: T. Horn (c) - Wolf, Bornauw, Czichos, J. Horn - Skhiri, Rexhbecaj - Limnios, Duda, Jakobs - Andersson
Out: Kainz (knee)
Doubtful: Hector (neck), Modeste (thigh)
Coach: Markus Gisdol
Bayern is in the right mood, winning their last seven competitive matches after their surprising 4-1 loss at Hoffenheim on Matchday 2. Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich got them over the line in Tuesday’s 2-1 victory at Lokomotiv Moscow in the UEFA Champions League, but Lewandowski has been the destroyer-in-chief in the league. His 10 goals after just five matchdays is a new Bundesliga record, of which nine have come in the last three outings against Hertha Berlin (four), Arminia Bielefeld (two), and Frankfurt (three). Lewandowski has scored 12 goals in 14 Bundesliga games against Koln, winning 13 times and drawing once.
The club’s overall scoring of 22 goals is also a new league-best and is almost as many as the division’s two next best attacks combined (RB Leipzig 12, Borussia Dortmund 11). Hansi Flick will be boosted by the returns of wingers Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry from their respective layoffs. Gnabry also enjoys facing against Koln, scoring six in five outings.
Goretzka is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes after going off at half-time with a calf issue in Russia, while Corentin Tolisso (suspended) and Alphonso Davies (ankle) are both out. The treble-winning coach has rotated his backline in recent weeks, but Lucas Hernandez – yet to lose in 33 competitive Bayern appearances – is set for an extended run at left-back in the absence of Davies.
Bayern has won 13 of their last 15 league visits to Koln (one draw, one defeat), including each of the last six.
Bayern: Neuer (c) - Sarr, Boateng, Alaba, Hernandez - Kimmich, Goretzka - Gnabry, Müller, Sane - Lewandowski
Out: Davies (ankle), Nianzou (thigh), Tolisso (suspended)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Hansi Flick

Bayern could be facing some fatigue problems but at this moment it is very hard to predict anything other than an away win in this match.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
