Koln will meet Hoffenheim at the RheinEnergieStadion for what could be a thrilling match-up of the 1st round in the Bundesliga.
Koln has escaped the relegation zone last season when they ended up in 14th place with 36 points, just 5 points above the trouble zone. Keeping a clean sheet in a 6-0 DFB Cup win over fourth-tier Altglienicke is a good sign for Koln who conceded five goals in two defeats against Hoffenheim last season, shipping 69 in total in 2019/20. For Cologne, the goalscorers were Jonas Hector (17'), Elvis Rexhbecaj (36', 63'), Rafael Czichos (43'), Salih Özcan (68') and Dominick Drexler (85'). Even though they were playing with a lower league team clean sheet is more than welcome to the team that reinforced at the goalkeeper position. Timo Horn, a talismanic figure at the club, having stayed on when they were relegated in 2018 for the first time in years, will face tough competition for a starting eleven in this season, after the arrival of the new signing Ron-Robert Zieler. Attacker Elvis Rexhbecaj scored twice in that match, and he could be important again after last season’s 13-goal topscorer Jhon Cordoba left for Hertha. They also added Sebastian Andersson, the man who knows how to score in the Bundesliga. Ondrej Duda, despite his quality, will wait his chance from the bench in the opening fixture.
Relegated Paderborn (74 goals) were the only side to concede more goals than Cologne (69) last season so FIFA World Cup-winning Germany international goalkeeper Zieler has been signed to help prevent something similar. Andersson has scored 12 league goals in all three of his seasons in Germany with Kaiserslautern and Union. His seven headed goals the last term were a league-high and he could be a crucial asset because of his abilities to find goals from the set-pieces. The Billy Goats have won eight of the 23 meetings between these sides to date (compared to Hoffenheim’s nine), but are winless in the last eight (five defeats, three draws).
Koln: Horn - Ehizibue, Bornauw, Czichos, Katterbach - Skhiri, Hector (c) - Drexler, Rexhbecaj, Özcan - Thielmann
Out: Jakobs (muscular), Kainz (knee), Schmitz (ankle)
Doubtful: Modeste (knee)
Coach: Markus Gisdol
After steering the Bayern Munich reserves to the third division title, Hoffenheim boss Hoeneß makes his top-flight debut as coach in this game. He made three first-team appearances as a player for the club in the 2006/07 season. TSG's run of three consecutive wins at the end of last season helped them finish sixth, meaning they will play in Europe in 2020/21 for just the third time in the club’s history. Hoffenheim had a hard time and only from a Jürgen Locadia penalty deep in injury-time got their victory in Koln last November. Christoph Baumgartner did the damage with two goals and an assist in a 3-1 victory in the return fixture in May. Baumgartner played his part in the visitors’ DFB Cup win last weekend, scoring a penalty in a shootout win over fourth-tier Chemnitzer.
That game was the first in charge of Hoffenheim for Sebastian Hoeneß, who must be thankful to Andrej Kramaric for scoring both in regular time and in extra-time to send the game to penalties after a 2-2 draw. Despite only playing in 19 top-flight games last season, Kramaric still finished as Hoffenheim’s top scorer with 12 goals. Baumgartner and Kramaric could form a potent attack along with ex Salzburg Munas Dabbur, with former Eintracht Frankfurt player and new signing Mijat Gacinovic likely to start from the bench. Nordtveit, Hubner, Posch, and Kaderabek are all injured, and some of them could make the match sheet but are unfit to play the whole game. Bittencourt, Kobel, Zuber, and Esser all left the team and we must observe is Hoffenheim capable to put the similar effort in several competitions.
Hoffenheim: Baumann - Posch, Bicakcic, Hübner (c), Skov - Grillitsch, Vogt, Geiger - Baumgartner - Dabbur, Kramaric
Out: Nordtveit (foot)
Doubtful: Kaderabek (thigh), Stafylidis (shoulder)
Coach: Sebastian Hoeneß

Very tough match to predict regarding coach change in the visiting team but both teams to score seems legit bet with the Koln playing at home and Hoffenheim attacking talent.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
