Latvia and Montenegro square off in Group G on Wednesday evening in a shadow of Netherlands, Turkey, and Norway looking to get their World Cup qualification bid off to a winning start. Read our reasons for Latvia vs Montenegro prediction and betting tips.
From Latvia's perspective, a hugely disappointing UEFA Nations League campaign has left them to contemplate a year of difficult fixtures in this competition. Latvia claimed just one win from six fixtures against the Faroe Islands, Malta, and Andorra, realistically putting them in a situation where they may be content with finishing ahead of Gibraltar. Dainis Kazakevics was not in charge of their most recent notable victory, a 1-0 success over Austria, but he will hope that it remains in the memories of his players ahead of fixtures against the opposition of a similar level. After thrashing Andorra by a 5-0 scoreline back in November, Kazakevics may see little reason to make any alterations to his team. Davis Ikaunieks scored twice during that fixture, doubling the number of goals that he scored in his first 27 appearances for his country.

Having suffered just one defeat in eight matches since September, Montenegro is on somewhat of a high as they look to qualify for their first World Cup. Newly-appointed boss Miodrag Radulovic has optimism ahead of the upcoming 10 fixtures. "I would be the happiest man in the world to qualify for the World Cup. But let's go step by step. We have three games in seven days in March, and the focus is on the first one, a duel with Latvia in Riga. We have very little time to work, just a couple of training, which means we will have to talk more. The guys I invited come from big clubs and serious leagues. I know some of them from the younger selections and I believe that they will easily accept the way I want to play. A start is important for every success, and I hope that we will start well in the qualifications. The main goal is to be better than in the previous qualifications when we did not have any victories."
Starting with games against Latvia and Gibraltar, Radulovic will hope to have maximum points on the board when they play host to Norway next week. "The goal is to win all three matches, but I say again - first focus on Latvia. We scouted them, it is an awkward team, which cultivates a direct style of football - with a lot of running and duels. I am afraid of a bit of terrain and cold weather in Riga, but we will try to find a winning formula. We scouted the rival to the last detail and we prepared following that", said Radulović.
After a long time, all the players from the list except Mugoša will respond to the call. And what is important - mostly everyone comes in great shape. "It's a good circumstance. We know how many problems with injuries were before, but I believe that it will not follow us during these qualifications. We followed all the players and I think that at this moment I have decided on the best that Montenegro has." Realistically, one defeat from their opening triple-header will leave the Brave Falcons as rank outsiders to claim a top-two spot, although the bigger teams will not get complacent in fixtures against this team.
Montenegro: Mijatovic; Marusic, Vujacic, Savic, Radunovic; Boljevic, Scekic, Vukčevic, Haksabanovic; Đurđevic, Jovetic

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
