Robert Lewandowski will look to continue his incredible scoring record when holders Bayern Munich travel to Rome to face Lazio in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday. Read our reasons for Lazio vs Bayern Munich prediction and betting tips.
Lazio earned the right to face the defending champions after finishing a point behind Borussia Dortmund in Group F. The Italians - 1-0 winners over Sampdoria on Saturday - are fourth in the current Serie A standings, albeit seven points behind leaders Inter Milan. It's also less than a month since they were eliminated from the Italian Cup by Atalanta at the quarter-final stage. I Biancocelesti have only reached the Champions League knockouts once in their previous five attempts when a team including the likes of Diego Simeone, Marcelo Salas, and current coach Simone Inzaghi went out at the quarter-final stage to Valencia in 1999/2000. Bayern, by contrast, has since won the tournament three times and played in a further two finals.
Former Bayern goalkeeper Pepe Reina is Lazio's most seasoned Champions League representative, having also turned out for Barcelona, Liverpool, and Napoli in the competition. Ciro Immobile, who scored 10 times in 34 appearances for Dortmund in 2014/15, is their chief marksman. The Italian has 19 goals to show for his first 26 outings of the current campaign, averaging one every 107 minutes. Lewandowski's mean is a world-beating goal every 82 minutes.
Lazio: Reina - Patric, Acerbi, Hoedt - Marusic, Milinkovic-Savic, Leiva, Alberto, Fares - Immobile (c), Correa
Out: Anderson (ineligible), Felipe (ankle), Radu (hernia), Strakosha (knee)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Simone Inzaghi
Lewandowski is the top scorer in the Bundesliga, Champions League, and DFB Cup last season with a combined total of 55 goals. He's already on 31 for the current campaign, after bringing up his 26th in the league in Saturday's 2-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt. It was only Bayern's sixth reverse in 70 competitive fixtures under head coach Hansi Flick, who has won as many trophies as he has suffered defeats since taking over from Niko Kovac on 3 November 2019. His record in the Champions League is quite extraordinary: 13 wins plus this season 1-1 draw away to Atletico Madrid when Bayern had already sewn up top spot in Group A.
Thomas Müller, who was on target in the Spanish capital, heads a lengthy list of absentees, but midfielder Leon Goretzka should start after returning from a lay-off of his own in the second half against Frankfurt. Niklas Süle is expected to continue at right-back in the absence of Benjamin Pavard, though midfielder Joshua Kimmich is a proven elite-level alternative in the role. FIFA World Cup winner Lucas Hernandez, who can play center- or left-back, may have to settle for a place on the bench once more, with Alphonso Davies back to his best following injury.
Bayern: Neuer (c) - Süle, Boateng, Alaba, Davies - Kimmich, Roca - Sane, Goretzka, Coman - Lewandowski
Out: Costa (metatarsal), Müller (not included), Nianzou (thigh), Nübel (ankle), Pavard (not included), Tolisso (muscular)
Doubtful: Gnabry (hamstring)
Coach: Hansi Flick

Reigning champions Bayern are unbeaten in 17 Champions League matches, winning 16 and drawing just once during that run. Also, they have reached the Champions League quarter-finals or better in eight of the last nine seasons. Lazio on the other side is in very good form after winning seven of their last eight matches in the league. Our final Lazio vs Bayern Munich prediction is both teams to score.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
