Lazio is just two points off the top four while Cagliari is without a win in the last 13 games.
Ciro Immobile believes Lazio is‘ getting back to our pre-lockdown form’ after five consecutive Serie A victories. ‘We want to have our say.’ The Biancocelesti are surging up the table and earned a precious 3-1 win away to Atalanta on Sunday. “We see Lazio getting back to our pre-lockdown form,” Immobile told media. “We are in a great moment, both physically and psychologically, even if we know that difficult moments are always around the corner. After all, we experienced it last year and realized that if you lose concentration or determination, you will struggle.”
Lazio was top of the Serie A table before the lockdown in March 2020 but fell away once the league resumed with a much tighter schedule. They also no longer had the advantage of not being in other competitions. On the other hand, now Lazio is preparing for the Champions League Round of 16 against Bayern Munich and is back in the race for a top-four Serie A finish. “We dropped a lot of points and put ourselves in a difficult situation, but did well to get ourselves back on track. Now we are up there and want to have our say.” Thomas Strakosha and Luiz Felipe are the only unavailable players for Simone Inzaghi who needs to assess the physical conditions of Felipe Caicedo who could start on the bench.
Lazio (3-5-2): Reina; Musacchio, Acerbi, Radu; Lazzari, Milinkovic-Savic, Lucas Leiva, Luis Alberto, Marusic; Correa, Immobile
Suspended: none
Injured: Strakosha, Luiz Felipe
Cagliari coach Eusebio Di Franchesco felt the Rossoblu ‘lost two points’ as Sassuolo scored a last-gasp equalizer in the 1-1 draw on Sunday. The Casteddu broke the deadlock against the run of play and seemed set to end their winless run in Serie A, but Jeremie Boga appeared at the far post to equalize four minutes into stoppages. “It’s not easy to analyze a match like this,” Di Francesco said. “After a performance that was interpreted right and with determination, the compactness we demonstrated in the game is excellent, we created opportunities. We lacked a bit of malice and weren’t creative in the final third. It’s a real shame because I was looking forward to three fundamental points.”
But the coach felt Cagliari showed character in their display against Roberto De Zerbi’s men. “When you come from a difficult moment, the mental aspect often makes the difference. They had more confidence, less pressure. We are working on other situations, I have seen interesting things even in the moments of suffering.” Daniele Rugani joined the Sardinians on loan from Juventus on the deadline day and seems set to start against the Biancocelesti at the Stadio Olimpico. Kwadwo Asamoah is expected to start on the bench, while Alfred Duncan has picked up a thigh injury.
Cagliari (4-3-2-1): Cragno; Zappa, Rugani, Godin, Lykogiannis; Nandez, Marin, Nainggolan; Joao Pedro, Sottil; Simeone
Suspended: none
Injured: Rog, Luvumbo, Duncan, Deiola

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
