Lazio and Napoli are out of the UEFA Champions League spots at the moment but the winner of their match could get a strong confidence boost for the remaining of the campaign.
Lazio is recording the worst start of the Simone Inzaghi era with 18 points in the opening 12 Serie A games of the season. Even with Lazio qualified for the last 16 stages of the Champions League for the first time in 20 years, their start in the League is the worst one of the Inzaghi era. The Biancocelesti were held to an away 1-1 draw in the derby between the Inzaghi brothers at Benevento on Tuesday.
Simone Inzaghi admits Lazio dropped two points in Benevento against his brother Pippo. ‘You can’t be satisfied with 1-1 after that performance.’ Ciro Immobile’s opener was a spectacular volley and the Aquile dominated the opening 44 minutes but were caught out by Pasquale Schiattarella on a corner. Benevento also threatened to win late on with a series of counter-attacks, forcing Pepe Reina to save a couple.
Lazio prepares for this crunch clash with absences in all departments of the squad. Coach Simone Inzaghi is still without club captain Senad Lulic, wing-back Mohamed Fares, Lucas Leiva, and - most crucially - defensive lynchpin Francesco Acerbi, who was injured in last week's defeat to Verona. Striker Vedat Muriqi returned to training late in the week and could claim a spot on the bench, as Ciro Immobile and Joaquin Correa again lead the line in Inzaghi's 3-5-2 formation.
Lazio (3-5-2): Pepe Reina; Stefan Radu, Francisco Acerbi, Luiz Felipe; Mohamed Salim Fares, Luis Alberto, Danilo Cataldi, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Manuel Lazzari; Ciro Immobile, Joaquin Correa
There was late drama at San Siro, as Inter thanked a penalty and goalkeeper Samir Handanovic for getting the better of 10-man Napoli. The Partenopei lost Dries Mertens early to a sprained ankle and it was quite an even game until David Ospina caught Matteo Darmian for a penalty. Lorenzo Insigne saw red for his protests, Romelu Lukaku converted, but Napoli continued to pour forward in search of an equalizer. Handanovic made several great saves and Andrea Petagna was denied by the woodwork. Napoli had by far the better scoring opportunities, both before and after the dismissal of Insigne.
Gennaro Gattuso will be mostly affected by crucial absences in the final third. Dries Mertens has suffered an ankle sprain and will not return until the new year, while Lorenzo Insigne was sent off for insulting the referee in midweek and is suspended as a result. In addition, Victor Osimhen has traveled to Belgium in order to rehabilitate his long-standing shoulder injury, so Andrea Petagna should deputize upfront.
Napoli (4-2-3-1): David Ospina; Mario Rui, Kalidou Kouibaly, Kostas Manolas, Giovanni Di Lorenzo; Tiemoue Bakayoko, Fabian Ruiz; Hirving Lozano, Piotr Zielinski, Matteo Politano; Andrea Petagna

Both teams have been inconsistent this season and need to win this match and also both teams to score looks like a very reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
